Abstract: This present disclosure is directed to a method of extracting germanium from a solid material, comprising: (a) grinding a solid material comprising germanium to generate a mixture of particulate solids; and (b) leaching the mixture with a leaching solution; wherein the leaching solution comprises water and a lixiviant; and wherein the lixiviant comprises at least an organic acid.
