摘要: A cable assembly comprising a connector with a termination that enables high density and high signal integrity. Shields of cables are terminated to a paddle card via a conductive structure attached to a surface of the paddle card. The signal conductors of the cables are terminated to pads on the paddle card that are exposed within openings of the conductive structure. Such a structure creates a ground structure per cable that provides low insertion loss and low crosstalk, even when multiple cables are aligned side by side and terminated in one or more rows. The cables may be drainless, enabling a large number of cables, such as eight cables, to be packed within the width of a paddle card specified in high density standards such as QSFP-DD or OSFP. The cables may nonetheless have large diameter signal conductors, enabling 2.5 or 3 meter assemblies with less than 17 dB insertion loss.

摘要: A high frequency cable connector with a plug connector terminating shielded cables via a plurality of cable connection modules attached to a paddle card. The terminations do not significantly disrupt the high integrity signal paths within the cables, even at high frequencies. Various techniques may be used, alone or in combination, to form the termination, including that the wire insulators and shields of the cables extend almost to the point of termination, with a relatively small length of wire extending beyond the insulator and shield; welding of cable wires to signal terminals in the modules; signal terminals and ground terminals held within the modules with a controlled relative spacing; signal terminals of the modules surface mount soldered to pads on the paddle card; narrow pads approximating the width of traces in the paddle card; and short pads, approximating the length of mounting ends of the signal terminals.

摘要: An interconnection system including a pluggable transceiver and a connector disposed in a cavity of a conductive cage. The pluggable transceiver may include a latching mechanism for locking to the conductive cage. The latching mechanism may include a pair of latches positioned on opposite sides of the pluggable transceiver. The latches may be spatially offset from each other along a longitudinal and/or vertical direction. Corresponding latching tabs in the conductive cage may be disposed in the same relationship, even in a ganged configuration when latching tabs for adjacent cavities are formed in a common wall between cavities. Cammed surfaces of a release mechanism, centered between latching edges of the transceiver latches may impart a latch releasing force at a central portion of the latching tab forcing the lathing tab back into the common wall, reducing rotational moment applied in prior designs, such as QSFP ganged cages.
