Abstract: Movement of a user interface (UI) element may be controlled through a magnet based physics model that controls movement of the UI element as if it were under a magnetic force. For a UI element that appears and disappears through device gestures, such as tilts, etc., the UI element may be controlled by one mimicked magnetic force that keeps it hidden and another mimicked magnetic force that keeps it visible, thus allowing the user to control the UI element with intuitive physical gestures using familiar physics-based magnetic behavior.

Abstract: A service such as an object tracking optimization service of a computing device is configured to optimize the use of object tracking information by, e.g., smoothing, averaging, or otherwise processing the information. Approaches enable the object tracking optimization service to acquire object tracking information (e.g., position information) at a variable input rate and provide the information to applications, services, and the like which require such information at variable rates. The information can be used to display image content (e.g., still or video content) in such a way that the image content will appear, to a viewer, to include portions with different locations in physical space, with the relative positioning of those portions being determined at least in part upon a current relative position and/or orientation of the viewer with respect to the device, as well as changes in that relative position and/or orientation.

Abstract: A computing device can present a map of a geographic region. The computing device can determine that a user operating the computing device has performed a particular action. The particular action can be, for example, a particular gesture. The computing device can determine that a distance between the user's face and the display screen of the computing device is within a threshold distance. If the user's face is within a threshold distance of the display screen, the map can be displayed in a dynamic view mode. While in the dynamic view mode, the map for the geographic region includes at least one additional map label for a feature that is located in the geographic region and navigation of the rendered map is disabled.

Abstract: By storing an increased number of traffic conditions within existing coding uniforms, the system described herein efficiently transmits traffic conditions with a high degree of granularity and low bandwidth cost. A digital map server determines a traffic condition for a portion of a road, packages the traffic condition within a channel of an individual coding uniform of a coding language, and transmits the coding uniform to a computing device. Alternatively, the traffic condition can be encoded within the channel of the coding uniform by the computing device. The coding uniform can also store a length of the portion of road to which the traffic condition corresponds. The computing device may then access the traffic condition, and then render a visual representation of traffic patterns on a digital map. The traffic conditions may also be packaged as arrays within a picture or texture file.
