Abstract: Computer-implemented methods and systems for modeling a patient's tooth. The methods may include generating a clinical crown mesh of the patient's tooth, where the clinical crown mesh includes known surfaces of a clinical crown of the patient's tooth. The methods may also include generating a parametric tooth model representing an average of multiple etalon tooth models of the same tooth type as the patient's tooth, where each of the multiple of etalon tooth models is represented by a mesh having a topical equivalence to a sphere and having no self-intersections. The methods may further include fitting the clinical crown mesh with the parametric tooth model to create an interim tooth model, and morphing the interim tooth model to substantially mimic an anatomical shape of the clinical crown mesh.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for modeling a complete tooth of a patient to facilitate dental and/or orthodontic treatment. The method includes generating a first set of digital data representing a clinical crown; generating a second set of digital data representing a plurality of digital tooth models of a particular tooth type each having a first parameterization; processing the second set of digital data to obtain a third set of digital data representing an average tooth model of the particular tooth type having a second parameterization which is less than the first parameterization; fitting the third set of digital data to the first set of digital data to create a set of digital data representing an interim tooth model; and morphing the set of digital data representing the interim tooth model to substantially mimic the anatomical shape of the clinical crown of the first set of digital data.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for digital dental modeling. One method embodiment includes receiving a three-dimensional data set including a first jaw and a second jaw of a three-dimensional digital dental model and receiving a two-dimensional data set corresponding to at least a portion of the first jaw and the second jaw. The method includes mapping two-dimensional data of the two-dimensional data set to the three-dimensional digital dental model by transforming a coordinate system of the two-dimensional data to a coordinate system of the three-dimensional data set. The method includes positioning the first jaw with respect to the second jaw based on the two-dimensional data mapped to the three-dimensional data set. The method includes using at least a portion of the two-dimensional data mapped to the three-dimensional data set as a target of movement of the first jaw with respect to the second jaw in the three-dimensional digital dental model.

Abstract: Methods, systems and non-transitory computing device readable media for bite setting in dental treatment planning. In some examples, the methods may include using images and a three-dimensional (3D) model of a dentition. Points may be marked on the 3D model corresponding to points marked in the images of first and second jaws in the different relative positions. A pivot point and/or a range of motion of the first and second jaws may be based on the marked points. Forces may be repeatedly applying on the points of the 3D model to move the first jaw with respect to the second jaw using the determined pivot point and/or range of motion until the first jaw ceases moving, thereby indicating that a stable bite position has been achieved. The forces on the points of the 3D model may be provided for a dental treatment plan for the dentition.
