    Abstract: In some implementations, a computing device can restrict the use of another computing device in certain contexts. For example, a parent may wish to use the parent's computing device to restrict her children's use of the children's computing devices while the children are in school while the children should be participating in some other activity. For example, the parent's controller device may be enabled to remotely configure and control the usage of the satellite device(s) without needing to physically access the satellite device. The parent may implement limitations, permissions, or different policies that may govern, for example, the ability of the satellite device to communicate with other devices, execute various application functionalities, run any particular software, and manage its own settings.

    Abstract: A user interface (UI) of a device configuration application includes a collection view window of device representations with each representation including a screen image that is representative of the configuration state of the corresponding device. The device configuration application UI allows for searching the devices based on their configuration states, and for configuring the devices based on a set of configuration templates displayed in a collection view window. The UI allows for customizing the configuration templates in a device-independent manner, while allowing the user to add a set of configuration rules to each template. The device configuration application provides a method for updating the actual lock screen image of devices by displaying a device identifier on the lock screen. The format of such device identifier includes a device-identifying text string and/or machine-readable code. Displaying a device identifier allows for a more efficient way of cataloging, tracking, and/or configuring devices.

    Abstract: The described embodiments include a content provider device that can assign items of content (applications, digitally-rendered music, books, videos, etc.) to users upon receiving assignment messages from administrative devices. The items of content can be electronically transferred to the user's devices to be used by users. The content provider device can also revoke assignments of items of content from users upon receiving revocation messages from administrative devices. The revocation generally causes the loss of one or more rights to the item of content for the user.
