Abstract: An electronic device, while displaying a representation of a piece of music, detects a first input event at a location corresponding to the representation of the piece of music, and in response, provides tactile feedback that corresponds to at least a subset of beats of the piece of music. Subsequently, in response to detecting a second input event at the location corresponding to the representation of the piece of music, the electronic device ceases to provide the tactile feedback that corresponds to the beats of the piece of music.

Abstract: An electronic device with a touch-sensitive surface, a display, and one or more tactile output generators displays, on the display, a respective user interface element within a user interface region. The device detects a gesture on the touch-sensitive surface for moving the respective user interface element by a respective amount. In response, in accordance with a determination that moving the respective user interface element by the respective amount would cause the respective user interface element to move beyond a predefined limit, the device generates a respective tactile output via the tactile output generators and moves the respective user interface element by the respective amount and beyond the predefined limit. In response to detecting liftoff of a contact used to perform the gesture, the device at least partially reverses the movement of the respective user interface element, such that the respective user interface element is moved to the predefined limit.

Abstract: An electronic device with a display, touch-sensitive surface and one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts with the touch-sensitive surface displays a virtual keyboard, and outputs characters corresponding to respective keys in the virtual keyboard when character-output criteria are met. While displaying an autocorrect user interface for changing a string of characters to a modified string of characters, the device detects an autocorrect input that includes an increase in intensity of a contact above a first intensity threshold while a focus selector is over a respective user interface element in the autocorrect user interface, and then either changes the string of characters to the modified string of characters, or maintains the string or characters, depending on whether the contact has an intensity that meets first predefined criteria with respect to the first intensity threshold and a second intensity threshold that is higher than the first intensity threshold.

Abstract: An electronic device with a touch-sensitive surface and a display displays content that includes an image, detects a gesture on the touch-sensitive surface for adjusting an image size of the image, and in response to detecting the gesture, determines an adjustment to the image size that corresponds to an extent of the gesture. If the adjustment to the image size would cause the image size to exceed a predefined image sizing limit, the device generates a respective tactile output on the touch-sensitive surface, performs the adjustment to the image size, and in response to detecting liftoff of a contact used to perform the gesture, at least partially reverses the adjustment to the image size, such that the image size is reduced to a size corresponding to the predefined image sizing limit.

Abstract: An electronic device with a display, a touch-sensitive surface, and one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts with the touch-sensitive surface: detects, on the touch-sensitive surface, a gesture that includes an increase of intensity of a contact above a respective intensity threshold. In response to detecting the gesture: in accordance with a determination that the gesture includes a first number of contacts, the device generates a tactile output on the touch-sensitive surface; and in accordance with a determination that the gesture includes a second number of contacts different from the first number, the device forgoes generating the tactile output on the touch-sensitive surface.

Abstract: An electronic device with a touch-sensitive display detects an input on the touch-sensitive display, which includes detecting a contact on the touch-sensitive display while the touch-sensitive display is in a low power mode. In response to detecting the input on the touch-sensitive display while the touch-sensitive display is in the low-power mode, if the input meets display-activation criteria, the device displays a respective user interface on the touch-sensitive display, wherein the respective user interface was not displayed on the touch-sensitive display when the touch-sensitive display was in the low-power mode. And, if the input does not meet the display-activation criteria, the device maintains the touch-sensitive display in the low-power mode after detecting the input without displaying the respective user interface on the touch-sensitive display.

Abstract: An electronic device, with a touch-sensitive surface and a display, includes one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts with the touch-sensitive surface. The device displays a user interface object on the display. The device further detects a press input on the touch-sensitive surface while a focus selector is at a first location in a user interface. In response to detecting the press input on the touch-sensitive surface, upon determining that the press input has an intensity above a predefined activation threshold, the device moves the user interface object directly to the first location in the user interface; and upon determining that the press input has an intensity below the predefined activation threshold and meets gradual-movement criteria, the device moves the user interface object toward the first location in the user interface in accordance with the intensity of the press input.

Abstract: An electronic device with a touch-sensitive surface, a display, and one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts displaying a lower-level user interface that is part of a user interface hierarchy, where the hierarchy includes at least three levels, including the lower-level user interface, an intermediate-level user interface and a higher-level user interface. The device also, while displaying the lower-level user interface, detects an input on a portion of the device that is associated with user interface hierarchy navigation and, in response to detecting the input, in accordance with a determination that the input meets first transition criteria, the device replaces display of the lower-level user interface with display of the intermediate-level user interface and in accordance with a determination that the input meets second transition criteria, the device replaces display of the lower-level user interface with display of the higher-level user interface.

Abstract: Compensation for sensors in a touch and hover sensing device is disclosed. Compensation can be for sensor resistance and/or sensor sensitivity variation that can adversely affect touch and hover measurements at the sensors. To compensate for sensor resistance, the device can gang adjacent sensors together so as to reduce the overall resistance of the sensors. In addition or alternatively, the device can drive the sensors with voltages from multiple directions so as to reduce the effects of the sensors' resistance. To compensate for sensor sensitivity variation (generally at issue for hover measurements), the device can apply a gain factor to the measurements, where the gain factor is a function of the sensor location, so as to reduce the sensitivity variation at different sensor locations on the device.

Abstract: An electronic device with a touch-sensitive surface, a display, and one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts, detects a contact, determines a location and intensity of the contact on the touch-sensitive surface, and displays a response, the response being based at least in part on an input-output mapping of intensity to response at the contact location. The input-output mapping including a first input-output relationship between intensity and response over a first range of intensity values, a second input-output relationship between intensity and response over a second range of intensity values, and a transitional intensity value where the first range of intensity values meets or overlaps the second range of intensity values. At the transitional intensity value, the first input-output relationship has a first rate of change, the second input-output relationship has a second rate of change, and the first rate is substantially the same as the second rate.
