摘要: Alumina fibers are prepared by a method comprising(a) forming aluminum methoxide from aluminum alkoxides using methanol;(b) recovering aluminum methoxide as a solid precipitate phase, washing to remove higher alcohols and drying to recover a powder;(c) reacting the recovered powdered aluminum methoxide with dilute hydrochloric acid to form aluminum chlorohydrate; then(d) concentrating the aluminum chlorohydrate solution under vacuum to desired viscosity.

摘要: A high-porosity, high-surface area, low-density alumina and a method for preparing said alumina. The alumina typically has a surface area from about 260 to about 400 m.sup.2 /g, a pore volume from about 1.0 to about 2.75 cc/g, a loose bulk density from about 7.5 to about 25 lb/ft.sup.3, and is produced by contacting aqueous alumina slurries with an effective amount of an organic solvent and drying the resulting solvent-aqueous alumina mixture.

摘要: An improvement in a method for producing alpha alumina monohydrate extrudates by mixing acid, water, and alpha alumina monohydrate to form an extrudable mixture; extruding the mixture to produce green alpha alumina monohydrate extrudates and drying the green extrudates, wherein the improvement comprises, contacting the green extrudates with an aqueous solution of catalytic metals in an amount sufficient to impregnate the extrudates with the catalytic metals thus improving the extrudate properties and impregnating the extrudates with catalytic metals.

摘要: A process for manufacturing high purity anhydrous hydrogen fluoride (HF) having low levels of oxidizable impurities by electrolytically oxidizing the impurities. Specifically, trivalent arsenic impurity in the anhydrous hydrogen fluoride is oxidized to a non-volatile pentavalent arsenic compound. The resultant mixture is distilled to recover high purity anhydrous hydrogen fluoride with low levels of arsenic impurity.

摘要: An improvement in the method of preparing alumina by water hydrolysis of aluminum alkoxides is disclosed. Briefly, the improvement comprising admixing the water and aluminum alkoxide under high velocity conditions prior to passing the resulting admixture to the reactor. The improved process results in a product having improved physical properties, particularly pore volume and bulk density.

摘要: Alumina having a surface area from about 250 to about 500 m.sup.2 /g, a loose bulk density from about 10 to about 30 lbs/ft.sup.3, a pore volume (0-10,000 A) from about 0.6 to about 2.5 cc/g and a pore volume (0-1,000 A) of at least 0.6 cc/g wherein 70 to 95 percent of said pore volume (0-1,000 A) consists of pores having a diameter in the range of 35 to 80 A and a method for producing such alumina by the water hydrolysis of aluminum methoxide.

摘要: A process for preparing hydrogen fluoride involving treating anhydrous hydrogen fluoride containing primarily trivalent arsenic impurities with an effective amount of chromium (VI) oxide (i.e., CrO.sub.3) and oxygen such as to oxidize substantially all of the trivalent arsenic to pentavalent arsenic (i.e., As.sup.+3 .fwdarw.As.sup.+5) followed by separation and recovery (e.g., by distillation) of purified anhydrous hydrogen fluoride.
