Abstract:
An edge switch enables service provisioning and dynamic service association for end devices coupled to the edge switch. The edge switch maintains a generic user profile that includes classification rules for classifying incoming traffic from the end devices to Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) VLAN tunnel services. Upon detecting incoming traffic on an access port of the edge switch, the edge switch accesses the generic user profile to determine whether the incoming traffic matches one of the classification rules, and if so, automatically associates the incoming traffic with a VLAN tunnel service indicated by the matching classification rule to provide tunnel-based connectivity to remote end devices associated with the VLAN tunnel service.

A virtual chassis system includes a plurality of network nodes configured with a master virtual chassis address. The network nodes are connected by virtual fabric link (VFLs) that provide a connection for exchange of packets between the network nodes. The packets include source MAC addresses and associated hardware device information, such as source chassis ID, source network interface identifier and source port identifier information. The network nodes use this information to maintain synchronized MAC address tables for forwarding of packets in the virtual chassis system.

A method of validating a license for a software application installed on a switch includes receiving a license file generated to provide a license for the software application, in which the license file contains a license key and license information for the switch, installing the license file on the switch to activate the license, validating the license internally on the switch using the license key within the license file and storing the license information associated with the license on the switch.
