    摘要: An electronic weapon system includes a terminal for a local stun function, a deployment unit for a remote stun function, and a barrier, removal of which during deployment enables a circuit for the remote stun function that includes the terminal. A method performed by an electronic weapon includes: (a) enabling a stimulator of the weapon to provide a current; (b) in response to a first operator control of the weapon, and when proximate to target tissue, passing the current through a first circuit that includes the target tissue; (c) blocking a second circuit of the weapon with a barrier of the weapon; (d) in response to a second operator control of the weapon, propelling an electrode of the weapon to a remote target, reducing blocking by the barrier, and passing the current via the second circuit that includes the electrode and the target tissue; and (e) in response to a second operation of the first operator control, and if proximate to target tissue, passing the current through the target tissue via the first circuit instead of passing the current through the second circuit, and if not proximate to target tissue, passing the current via the second circuit through the electrode and through the target tissue.

    摘要: A method for immobilization of a human or animal target passes a current through a circuit that includes tissue of the target. The current causes pain compliance or interferes with skeletal muscle control by the target. The method includes in any practical order: (a) generating a first compliance signal of the current, the first compliance signal having a first maximum amplitude; and (b) generating a second compliance signal of the current, the second compliance signal having a second maximum amplitude. The absolute value of the second maximum amplitude is less than the absolute value of the first maximum amplitude. A system that performs such a method may include a processor, a signal generator, and electrodes or terminals for forming the circuit through tissue of the target. Systems, according to various aspects of the present invention, may include stun guns, dart weapons, electronic control devices, electrified projectiles, and mines, to name a few applications.

    摘要: An electronic weapon with an installed deployment unit, from which at least one tethered electrode is launched, provides a stimulus current through a target to inhibit locomotion by the target. The wire tether, also called a filament, conducts the stimulus current. The one or more electrodes, according to various aspects of the present invention, perform one or more of the following functions in any combination: binding the filament to the electrode, deploying the filament from the deployment unit, coupling the electrode to the target, and distributing a current density with respect to a region of target tissue and/or a volume of target tissue. For an electrode that includes a body and a spear, the spear may be implemented with conductive rings or with materials that include integrated conductive and insulative substances (e.g., conductive fibers in insulative composite material). Relatively high electric field flux density at a tip of the spear may be reduced or avoided by practice of the invention.
