The present invention relates to a shoe sole that includes a polyamide in the form of powder or microfibers admixed with a thermoplastic base material to improve the strength, durability, abrasion resistance, and other desirable physical properties of the shoe sole. Suitable thermoplastic base materials include rubber, polyurethane or ethylene vinyl acetate. The polyamide microfibers are randomly and nonuniformly oriented to reinforce the shoe sole in all directions.

A self-sharpening cutting implement, especially scissors, includes two cutting elements which have respective gripping and cutting portions and which are pivotably connected to one another intermediate the gripping and cutting portions for movement relative to one another along a common plane. Each of the cutting portions has a cutting edge and an adjacent planar surface which is situated in the common plane. A layer of abrasive material is applied to one of the planar adjacent surfaces so that, as the cutting edge of the other of the cutting elements slides along this layer, it is sharpened. The layer may be applied by spraying, plating, vapor deposition, vacuum metallizing, sintering, or adhering the abrasive material to the respective planar adjacent surface.

The strip is provided with perforations between adjacent dose units to permit a prospective customer to tear off one or several samples at a time from the strip. The sheet or strip can be provided on a reel for convenient and compact disposition at the point of purchase.

A continuous process for preparing finely divided thin, bright metal particles which comprises applying a release coating to at least one side of a carrier sheet, depositing a metal film of from 350 to 450 angstroms thickness onto the release coating solubilizing the release coating, removing the metal film from the carrier sheet, and breaking the thin metal film into particles having a diameter of between 25 to 50 microns.
