Abstract:
A signaling processor receives signaling for a user communication and processes the signaling to select a first packet communication path and a second packet communication path. The signaling processor transfers messages indicating a TDM communication path, the first packet communication path, and the second packet communication path. An interworking unit interworks the user communication between the TDM communication path and the first packet communication path. A communication device routes the user communication from the first packet communication path to the second packet communication path.
Abstract:
A signaling interface exchanges call-associated and non-call-associated SS7 messages with an SS7 system. The signaling interface transfers call information from the call-associated SS7 messages, and processes maintenance information from the non-call associated SS7 messages to perform system maintenance. A call processing platform processes the call information on a call-by-call basis to identify interworking information to route the calls and transfers control messages indicating the interworking information. An interworking unit receives the control messages and interworks between TDM communications for the calls and packet communications for the calls by placing the interworking information in headers of the packet communications on a call-by-call basis. A communication device routes the packet communications for the calls based on the interworking information in the headers.
Abstract:
A system and method for processing a call comprises a signaling interface to receive and process call signaling and transmit call signaling between a call processor and communication devices such as a local number portability service control point. A call processor processes call signaling to determine call connections. A local service control point (local SCP) provides information such as, for example, for N00 routing and virtual private network (VPN) routing. The local SCP resides with the call processor on a single platform so that they are connected, for example, through a backplane or bus architecture. In this configuration, transaction capabilities application part messages do not have to be transmitted between the signaling interface and the local SCP. Instead, direct communication can occur through control messages transmitted between the local SCP and the call processor thereby realizing increased speed and processing efficiency. Because the local SCP resides with the call processor, two remote dips to an SCP is not necessary.
Abstract:
A communication system routes user communications for a telecommunication call. The communication system comprises a processing system and an interworking system. The processing system receives a Signaling System Seven (SS7) Initial Address Message (IAM) message that indicates an originating connection and a called number for the call. The processing system enters a first data structure with the originating connection to identify a second data structure, and enters the second data structure with the called number to identify interworking information. The processing system transfers a control instruction indicating the interworking information. The interworking system receives the control instruction and the user communications, and in response, transfers packets having the interworking information and the user communications. The packets are routed based on the interworking information in the packets. The processing system is external to the interworking system.
Abstract:
A processing system processes a first signaling message from a packet system and identifies a Time Division Multiplex (TDM) communication path to a TDM system. The processing system transfers a control message indicating the TDM communication path. The processing system selects a signaling format for the TDM system and generates a second signaling message in the selected signaling format indicating the TDM communication path. The processing system transfers the second signaling message in the selected signaling format to the TDM system. The interworking system receives the control message and the packet communications, and in response, converts the packet communications into TDM communications and transfers the TDM communications over the TDM communications path to the TDM system.
Abstract:
Signaling processors process signaling to transfer first and second control messages indicating interworking information. Interworking units receive the control messages and user communications, and in response, convert the user communications into packet communications having the interworking information in headers. Communication devices receive the packet communications from the interworking units and route the packet communications over optical communication paths based on the interworking information in the headers. The communication devices receive the routed packet communications and transfer the routed packet communications to the interworking units. The interworking units receive the second control messages and the routed packet communications, and in response, to convert the routed packet communications into the user communications and transfer the user communications.
