Abstract: A mass spectrometer is disclosed comprising a FAIMS device comprising two parallel electrodes (9a, 9b) in series with an ion mobility separator (12) forming part of a mass spectrometer. Ions are separated in the FAIMS device (9a, 9b) according to their rate of change of ion mobility with electric field strength. The ions which are onwardly transmitted from the FAIMS device (9a, 9b) are then passed to an ion separator device (12) comprising a plurality of electrodes (12) and an optional ion trapping region (33). Ions are radially confined with the ion separator by application of an AC or RF voltage to the electrodes (12) and ions are separated according to their ion mobility by applying an axial DC voltage gradient which may remain constant as a function of time or which may vary with time.

Abstract: A beveled edge safety door assembly consisting of a mitred edge rather than the standard 90 degrees, said mitred edge running vertically along the hinge side of the door which creates a triangular safety gap when closed, which provides extra space between door and jamb to prevent the crushing of human fingers, and further containing a lengthy continuous hinge preferably extending from the base of the door to its top, which prevents fingers from entering therefrom, and still further containing a flexible rubberlike doorstop which gives way to a human finger or other similar objects if inserted therein, thereby preventing a serious injury should the door be inadvertently closed.

Abstract: A mass spectrometer is disclosed comprising a quadrupole rod set ion guide or mass filter device (6). A broadband frequency signal (10) having one or more notches (11a, 11b, 11c) is applied to the rods of the quadrupole rod set (6). The notched broadband frequency signal (10) causes undesired ions to be resonantly ejected from the ion guide (6). The notched broadband frequency signal (10) has frequency components missing which correspond with the resonance frequency of ions which are desired to be onwardly transmitted. The ion guide or mass filter device (6) enables a plurality of desired ions having different mass to charge ratios to be simultaneously transmitted by the ion guide or mass filter device (6) whilst other ions are resonantly ejected from the ion guide or mass filter device (6).

Abstract: An accessory rail and method for attaching the accessory rail to a firearm is described. An accessory rail includes a first block and second block positioned respectively at a rear end and forward end of the accessory rail. The first block is configured to engage a first receiving area of the firearm, and the second block is configured to engage a second receiving area of the firearm. The accessory rail can advantageously be connected to a firearm such as the Samozaryadnj Karabin sistemy Simonova (SKS) assault rifle by utilizing manufactured points present in the SKS. The first block may engage a receiver cover attachment point. The second block may engage a receiving area present in the rear sight. No machining modifications to the firearm are required.
