    摘要： A method of making an injection molded device includes the steps of (a) assembling a mold comprising a primary male mold half and a primary female mold half to define a primary mold cavity; (b) injecting a first fluid polymeric material into the primary mold cavity and permitting the first fluid polymeric material to solidify to form a device frame; (c) replacing the primary female mold half with a secondary female mold half; (d) restraining the device frame in the resulting mold cavity and injecting a second fluid polymeric material to form a first portion of an outer layer that retains the shape of the first overmold cavity; (e) replacing the primary male mold half with a secondary male mold half; and (f) injecting an additional amount of the second fluid polymeric material into the resulting cavity to form a sufficiently integral outer layer about the device frame.

    摘要： An applicator for intravaginal devices includes an elongate handle, an insertion sleeve, and an intravaginal device support member. The elongate handle has an open first end that defines a cavity extending into the handle. The insertion sleeve extends from the open first end of the handle; it is arranged and configured to slide into the cavity of the handle and to accommodate an intravaginal device; and it has associated therewith a trigger. The intravaginal device support member is disposed in the cavity of the handle; it is operatively connected to the handle; and it has a bearing surface disposed proximate the open first end of the handle. The applicators are useful to ensure that intravaginal devices are placed in the appropriate position to be effective.

The topographical support member is a rotatable hollow cylindrical tube having a substantially smooth surface and plurality of apertures therethrough. A substantial portion of the surface of the topographical support member has an ion beam deposited coating, the coating being highly adherent and exhibiting improved wear resistance relative to uncoated topographical support surfaces.     摘要： The absorbent structure of the invention has a substantially continuous absorbent web having an absorbent layer and a transfer layer. The transfer layer includes a nonabsorbent material and is capable of transferring liquids which it receives to the absorbent layer. The first and second edges of the absorbent web are coiled to form side walls, and the side walls form a trough therebetween. The top, trough-containing surface provides a natural trough in the space between the side walls for receiving and holding large gushes of body fluid until they can be absorbed by or dispersed into the rest of the structure.
