    摘要: Techniques are disclosed for controlling and managing virtual machines and other such virtual systems. VM execution approval is based on compliance with policies controlling various aspects of VM. The techniques can be employed to benefit all virtual environments, such as virtual machines, virtual appliances, and virtual applications. For ease of discussion herein, assume that a virtual machine (VM) represents each of these environments. In one particular embodiment, a systems management partition (SMP) is created inside the VM to provide a persistent and resilient storage for management information (e.g., logical and physical VM metadata). The SMP can also be used as a staging area for installing additional content or agentry on the VM when the VM is executed. Remote storage of management information can also be used. The VM management information can then be made available for pre-execution processing, including policy-based compliance testing.

    摘要: By implementing various types of tags, easy management and control of assets in a business system is enabled. These assets may be virtual machines, hardware assets, personnel assets, or any other kind of assets. System tags are determined and associated with an asset automatically. For example, a system automatically determines the name and version of an operating system running on a virtual machine and associates an appropriate system tag with that asset. Virtual tags and dynamic tags are tags that do not contain the information sought—rather, these tags contain instructions about how to determine the tag value associated with an asset. Management tags are user-entered tags indicating information about an asset based on the knowledge of an individual.The above-described tags can be combined using Boolean algebraic operators, resulting in a tag-based algebra system. Moreover, this tag-based algebra enables a Tag-Based Query Language (TQL), which enables searching of a universe of assets based on the associated tags. Additionally, this tag-based algebra enables access control based on tags associated with a user and tags associated with assets in a universe of assets. Finally, the tag-based algebra enables policies to be enforced in a universe of assets.

    摘要: By means of a suitable data entry device such as an electronic digitizing tablet or graph board, items of data respectively defining the original configuration of a roughly sketched object and the desired final proportions thereof are entered into a stored table called a "pointing sequence list" (PSL), which is capable of storing all of the information required to define both the original form and the desired final configuration of the object. Initially the PSL contains positional entries representing the coordinates of definitive points on the roughly sketched object and dimensional entries specifying the proportions which the object is to have in its final delineation, all arranged in an order corresponding to a predefined pointing sequence which is followed by the operator when he enters the necessary items of graphic information into the system. The initial PSL subsequently is converted to a new PSL by a rectifying procedure which modifies the coordinates of the previously entered points where necessary in order to effect horizontal and vertical alinements of points which are supposed to be located on common axially directed lines. Whenever a coordinate is modified to effect an axial alinement (or in some instances a joinder) between two or more points during the rectification process, the respective entry which corresponds to the modified coordinate in the new PSL is provided with a "pointer" to the PSL location storing the entry which specifies the referenced coordinate, thereby establishing an equivalence between these two entries. The linkages among equivalent entries are preserved during subsequent processing operations performed upon these entries, so that a change in one member of each set affects all of the other members thereof. The new PSL entries are then further modified where necessary in accordance with the proportions specified by the various dimensional entries, so that the PSL ultimately specifies the positions of points defining a rectified and proportioned version of the original rough sketch, thereby enabling a finished drawing or other final representation of the object to be produced from these PSL entries.

    摘要: A home test kit for detecting fecal blood includes a scoop device for collecting a fecal sample, a luminescent for mixing with the sample, a hollow container for containing the sample, water and the luminescent, or luminol during use of the kit. A base may be provided for supporting the container during testing, and the container may include an integrally formed lid. Detection of the blood in the sample is possible because the luminescent undergoes a light-producing reaction that involves, as a reactant or catalyst, blood or blood components or products. The blood is thus visible, or glows in darkened surroundings. The kit is compact, easy to use, and formed from biodegradable material for easy disposal.
