Abstract:
Autonomous cooperative units working together to solve diagnostics, monitoring, surveillance, reconfiguration, and control problems may be organized into clusters and cluster associations, for example along the lines of a particular distribution system for water, power or the like. The clusters allow controlled communication among agents within different services and support the coordinated diagnostics, reconfiguration, and control across coupled systems.
Abstract:
A sensor, and method of using the sensor, for determining changes in the chemical or electrolytic properties of non-electrolyte, or weakly electrolytic fluids comprising an anode, cathode and reference electrode covered by a solid electrolyte film. Changes in these properties are indicative of degradation of the fluid or dissolution therein of conductive materials from the surfaces in contact with that fluid.
Abstract:
A control system for an energy-related system including at least a first energy consumer and a first energy producer, and related method, are disclosed. The control system includes a first agent in communication with the first energy consumer for the purpose of at least one of controlling and monitoring an operation of the first energy consumer, a second agent in communication with the first energy producer for the purpose of at least one of controlling and monitoring an operation of the first energy producer, and a network at least indirectly coupling the first and second agents and allowing for communication therebetween. The first and second agents are capable of negotiating with one another in order to determine an amount of energy to be delivered from the first energy producer to the first energy consumer.
Abstract:
A system that facilitates in situ determination of lubricity in a fluid comprises a multi-element sensor positioned within a machine, wherein the multi-element sensor obtains data regarding a plurality of parameters of a fluid. A component calculates lubricity of the fluid based at least in part upon the measured parameters.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus provide for reduced cost and complexity in managing an intelligent motor in an architecture in which information is transferred between a power management device and the intelligent motor. The information may be used by an embedded processor of the motor to provide diagnostics and/or prognostics of the motor, machinery operating in conjunction with the motor, and/or a process in which the motor may be configured to operate. The power management device may remotely determine motor current information that is used by the intelligent motor to self-diagnose the intelligent motor using the motor current information.
Abstract:
Crane control and anti-sway are facilitated utilizing a diagnostic component that includes a model component and a control component. The diagnostic component interfaces with an extrinsic data analysis component and a controller component. The diagnostic component receives operating condition information from the extrinsic data analysis component and performs predictive modeling, based on a current status and stored information. Further, the diagnostic component predicts the affect of the operating conditions on a crane and implements and/or recommends actions to mitigate the affect of the existing and/or predicted operating conditions. The diagnostic component further mitigates crane sway and/or induces crane sway to reduce container transit time. Intelligent agents are employed to provide trajectory planning and execution and/or to detect potential component failure.
Abstract:
A system and methodology that employs an agent technology logic layer operating in connection with or integral to a controller is provided. The logic layer can be a functional extension of the controller's firmware that facilitates logical reasoning and decision-making with regard a network as a function of individual agent(s) state and/or status. The components of the subject invention can facilitate combining high level reasoning and/or decision making capabilities with conventional control programs to effect agent-based system diagnosis and/or system reconfiguration.
Abstract:
A heterogeneous agent-based distributed control system for controlling a controlled system having a plurality of components is disclosed. The heterogeneous agent-based distributed control system includes one or more agent of a first type and one or more agents of a second type that communicate with one another by way of one or more networks or other communication links. The agents of the first and second types differ from one another in terms of one or both of their respective architectures and their respective responsibilities. The agents interact with one another in a collaborative manner, and communicate through the use of a special, standardized communications protocol and through the use of certain special functional components.
Abstract:
A system and method relating to the measuring of torque in a rotating shaft is provided. An optical torque sensing system comprises a rotating shaft, wherein a sleeve of photo-elastic material overlays a portion of the shaft. A light emitting component delivers light into the photo-elastic material, wherein the light delivered by the light emitting component is directed through the photo-elastic material along an axis of the rotating shaft. A capturing component captures the light that exits the photo-elastic material. The exiting light comprises fringe pattern data, and a computing system computes torsion strain of the shaft based at least in part on the fringe pattern information
