Abstract:
A method and system for managing an inactive interval of a Base Station (BS) are provided, in which the BS transmits a preferred Low-Duty Mode (LDM) pattern to a coordination server that manages LDM patterns of BSs, receives an LDM pattern from the coordination server, the LDM pattern being determined for the BS by the coordination server, taking into account the preferred LDM pattern and LDM patterns of neighbor BSs, and operates in an active interval and an inactive interval according to the received LDM pattern.

Abstract:
Provided is an apparatus and method for ranging in a broadband wireless communication system. In a method for communication of a base station, a received signal and ranging codes are correlated to detect codes. Feedback information for the detected codes is generated, and a ranging feedback message including the generated feedback information is generated. The ranging feedback message is physical-layer-encoded and the resulting data are broadcast. The base station combines and broadcasts data region allocation information and control information for ranging codes received from a plurality of mobile stations. Therefore, resources can be saved and a signalling process can be simplified.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for performing a handover in a communication system, comprising causing the MS to receive a ranging code including the information on a handover bandwidth request ranging code from a serving BS, the handover bandwidth request ranging code being used for the MS to get an uplink bandwidth required for the handover allocated by the serving BS in a contention-free scheme, and causing the MS to request the serving BS to allocate the uplink bandwidth for the handover by using the handover bandwidth request ranging code.
