Abstract: A contact lens (2001) and methods of manufacturing such a lens (2001) are described. The contact lens (2001) comprises an optic zone (202). The optic zone (202) comprises a central portion having a centre of curvature that is on an optical axis (219), and a first annular portion (203) extending radially outwards from the central portion (205). The first annular portion (203) provides a curvature add power. One of an anterior surface and a posterior surface of the first annular portion (203) has a centre of curvature that is on the optical axis (219). The other of the anterior surface and the posterior surface of the first annular portion (203) has a centre of curvature that is separated by a first distance from the optical axis (219).

Abstract: A cationic contact lens is described as well as methods of manufacturing the same. The cationic contact lens includes a polymeric lens body that is the reaction product of a polymerizable composition that includes at least one siloxane, at least one nonionic hydrophilic monomer and at least one acyclic tertiary amine monomer. The cationic contact lens can be an unworn sterile silicone hydrogel contact lens. The contact lens is capable of substantially linear release of a releasable anionic agent and the at least one acyclic tertiary amine monomer facilitates uptake and/or sustained release of the releasable anionic agent by the polymeric lens body. The contact lens can be present in a sealed contact lens package. The sealed contact lens package can include at least a) a base member having a cavity; b) a contact lens packaging solution in the cavity; c) a unworn sterile contact lens immersed in the contact lens packaging solution in the cavity with the releasable anionic agent present; and d) a cover that forms a liquid-tight seal with the base member.

Abstract: A contact lens package kit is described that includes a contact lens packages, wherein each contact lens package includes a base member having a cavity and a sealing member coupled to the base member. An unworn contact lens is provided in a packaging solution within the sealed cavity. The base member is a thermoplastic material (or other recyclable material) and includes a substantially planar surface surrounding the cavity to provide a sealing surface for the sealing member. The kit also includes at least one fastener configured to retain a plurality of base members from each of the contact lens packages after the contact lens is removed from the cavity. A recyclable thermoplastic contact lens assembly is also described, that includes empty contact lens packages attached to a fastener. A method to recycle used contact lens packages, such as curbside recycling, is further described that uses the fastener, and the fastener itself is also described.

Abstract: A method of designing a fluid-filled contact lens (103) is described. The method involves generating a computational model that includes a fluid-filled lens (103) and the shape of a cornea causes deformation of an internal structure of the fluid-filled lens (103) to generate a deformed, fluid-filled lens (103) with altered optical properties. The method also includes modelling (5) the optical properties of the deformed, fluid-filled lens (103). The shape of the fluid-filled lens (103) is then adjusted (7) to reduce the effects of the deformation on the optical properties. This is referred to as an adjusted fluid-filled lens (103). A corresponding off-eye lens design is generated (110 based on the adjusted fluid-filled lens design.

Abstract: A contact lens (201) and methods of manufacturing such a lens are described. The lens (201) includes an optic zone (202). The optic zone (202) comprises a central region (205), the central region (205) having a first optical axis (219), a base radial curvature power, a base radial sagittal power, and a centre of curvature that is on the first optical axis (219). The optic zone (202) comprises an annular region (203), wherein at a point halfway across the width of the annular region (203) the annular region (203) has a radial curvature power of X, wherein X is greater than the base radial curvature power. The annular region (203) has an off-axis centre of curvature that is a first distance from the optical axis (219) such that, at a point halfway across its width, the annular region (203) has a sagittal power of Y, wherein Y is greater than the base radial sagittal power, and wherein Y is less than X.
