摘要： A luminaire for roadway lighting using a one-piece reflector developing at least two collimated beams in each longitudinal direction. The collimated beams impinge on sloping faces of a refractor to diverge the beams into a regular pattern covering the street with a sharp cutoff at predetermined longitudinal distances from the luminaire. The refractor employs a compressed parabola comprised of radial sections of comparatively large focal length with steps and risers. The complex shape of the one-piece reflector may readily be produced by a reflector finish applied to a molded plastic matrix. In the luminaire, the prismatic surfaces of the inclined walls of the refractor diverge the formerly collimated beams in a carefully controlled manner to produce very uniform distribution of light.

摘要： A weatherproof terminal or junction box structure for a luminaire adapted for connection by a mast to a building or pole. The structure enables access to the terminal or junction box area for wiring and inspection without disassembly of the mounting of the luminaire to the mast and without the necessity of disassembling the luminaire itself. The mast telescopes within a channel receiver of the luminaire housing for mounting purposes. The mast is slotted at its entry end, the slot being encompassed within an access opening which may be covered by a wire way cover. Removal of the cover exposes the wiring for connection and inspection. With the cover in place, recessed within the receiver, the connection of mast to luminaire produces a weatherproof mounting. A second embodiment omits the need for the cover by normally setting the entry end slot rotated out of registration with the channel opening. Access to the slot may be had by rotating the luminaire about the axis of the channel receiver.

The structure has a discontinuous tubular bore comprised of two axially spaced apart semi circular sections forming the top of the bore and a bottom semi circular section spaced midway between the two upper sections. The bore structure is integral to the housing with the inner top section adjoining an enclosing face on the housing terminating said bore. One or more of said sections includes a central boss for receiving a set screw therein adapted to bear against the mast and prevent relative movement between the housing and mast.

摘要： A hinge mechanism for a luminaire for outdoor lighting which allows the lower housing including the lamp refractor to be pivoted to a position enabling access to the luminaire interior. When it is desired that the lower housing be detached, the hinge retainer is released to permit detachment of the lower housing. The hinge mechanism includes a transverse rod resting in a trough formed by one or more channel supports. To prevent the rod from being removed from the channel, a U-shaped spring holder is held in a position where each U leg normally extends over the opening of the hinge channel support. These spring holders retain the channel in the trough. To detach the hinge, the base of the U is manually grasped and retracted to withdraw the spring legs from its extending position. The rod in channel engagement may be detached to remove the refractor housing from the luminaire.

Each lamination piece is of a general L-shape and has a notch at the upper outside corner of the base section and a tab extending from the upper outside corner of the shorter side section. About one-half of the lamination pieces are aligned adjacent each other to form an upper lamination section. The other half of the lamination pieces are aligned adjacent each other to form a lower lamination section. The upper lamination section is placed on the lower lamination section such that the tabs and corresponding notches are in contact. The height of the tabs and depth of the notches are proportioned such that a gap of preselected width extends between the edge of the upper portion of the side sections and the adjacent portion of the base section.

摘要： A latch mechanism for use in a street and roadway lighting luminaire. The latch mechanism operates generally in the same fashion as prior latch mechanisms to release the engagement between the upper and lower housings responsive to manual actuation of a pawl of the latch mechanism against the bias of a torsion spring. The present mechanism may be readily detached and replaced without the need for elaborate spring depressors. Two torsion springs are employed, one fitted to each side of the latch pawl to hold and bias the pawl. The springs can be released individually to enable removal of the pawl. On replacement, the pawl is slipped into the cast-in nesting arrangement with the two springs loosely fitted on the pawl. The springs are then depressed to their pawl-biasing condition to mount and affix the pawl to the lower housing. In this manner, the pawl can be replaced, if desired, without the need for tools of any kind, especially since the mounting of the latch in its housing is performed without screws or bolts.
