摘要: A transfer case having an input shaft, an output shaft, and a planetary gearset connected therebetween. The planetary gearset includes a first sun gear, a second sun gear, a carrier coupled for rotation with the input shaft, a ring gear coupled for rotation with the output shaft, and meshed pairs of first and second pinions rotatably supported on the carrier with each first pinion meshed with the first sun gear and each second pinion meshed with the second sun gear and the ring gear. The transfer case further includes a powershift clutch assembly comprised of a first range clutch located between the carrier and the ring gear, a second range clutch located between the first sun gear and a stationary member, and a third range clutch located between the second sun gear and the stationary member. Actuation of the clutches is controlled by a hydraulic control system for shifting each of the clutches between actuated and non-actuated modes to establish three different speed ratio drive connections between the input and output shafts.

摘要: A two-speed differential adapted for use in motor vehicle driveline applications. The two-speed differential is capable of selectively transferring power to either a first drive mechanism for establishing a first drive speed ratio or a second drive mechanism for establishing a second drive speed ratio. The selected drive mechanism then transmits power to an output mechanism for subsequent transmission to the driving axles of the motor vehicle while permitting speed differentiation therebetween. In one aspect of the present invention, the first drive mechanism provides a "direct drive" speed ratio and the second drive mechanism provides an "overdrive" speed ratio. In another aspect of the present invention, the first drive mechanism provides a "direct drive" speed ratio and the second drive mechanism provides an "underdrive" speed ratio.

摘要: An improved dual-cone synchronizer apparatus having a middle cone ring concentrically disposed intermediate an outer blocker ring and an inner cone ring on a transmission shaft. The inner cone ring is formed with a plurality of longitudinally extending drive tangs projecting into an associated window formed on a flange portion of the blocker ring. Each drive tang defines a back-angled cam edge diverging outwardly at a first acute angle. Each window has a side wall disposed in spaced relation with its associated drive tang cam edge and adapted to be slidably engaged therewith upon energization of the synchronizer whereby the synchronizing torque is increased for a given input synchronizing force.

摘要: A transfer case for a four wheel drive vehicle providing a drive range planetary gear set selectively positionable at a low speed output position, a high speed output position and a neutral position; having a dual planetary inter-axle differential gear set axially spaced from the range planetary gear set. The differential gear set is selectively positionable to provide a two-wheel drive mode to a first output and a full-time four-wheel drive mode with differential action between the first output and a second output. A viscous fluid clutch is selectively connected between the first and second outputs for modifying torque division therebetween whereby the viscous clutch is disconnected upon shifting into the two-wheel drive mode.

摘要: An automatic power shift transfer case for a four wheel drive vehicle has a front high-low range planetary gear set and a rear differential planetary gear set aligned symmetrically about the transfer case central shaft axis. The front and rear planetary gear sets are arranged in a back-to-back substantially mirror image manner so as to share a common carrier interposed therebetween. The front planetary gear set with either its low or high range clutch applied selectively delivers a corresponding speed through the common carrier to the rear planetary gear set. The torque flow is split in a predetermined manner wherein a minimum torque to maximum may be selectively delivered to the rear axle, via a rear planetary gear set modulating clutch while the remaining torque is normally delivered to the front axle. Lock-up of the modulating clutch allows the front axle to be disconnected providing a two-wheel drive mode.

摘要: An auxiliary transmission unit having multiple countershafts is disclosed for use in a motor vehicle. The countershafts are disposed about an input sun gear and an output sun gear in such a manner as to provide an opening for a shift fork to reach a central shift mechanism locating the planet gears, one with respect to the other, at angular alignment positions in an unequally spaced manner. A tooth of one sun gear at an alignment position will be aligned with a tooth of the other sun gear at least once during one revolution of a countershaft. The unequal spacing of the countershafts provides reduced height for the auxiliary transmission housing.

摘要: A manual shift transmission having multiple input and output portions is provided with a control having input and output shift rails. A laterally movable control shaft extends axially through cutouts in respective shift rails and carries cams adapted to cooperate with cam follower surfaces on corresponding cutouts to effect rectilinear movement of the shift rails upon rotation of the control shaft. The cams are arranged on the shaft so that the shaft may be positioned to place respective cams in register with the input and output shift rails while all other cams are out of register with the rail cutouts. The shift movement of respective output and input shift rails is overlapped during the rotation of the control shaft to decrease the throw of the shift lever.

摘要: A drive unit for use with an electric vehicle comprising a planetary gear arrangement. The planetary arrangement includes a reduction portion and a differential portion and provides a large reduction of rotational speed between the motor and the differential portion while delivering differentiated power to the drive wheels. The planetary arrangement includes, in its preferred embodiment, a first ring gear grounded to the transmission housing, a first pinion carrier having a first set of pinions, a first sun gear formed on an input shaft, a second carrier mated with a first output shaft, the second carrier having a second set of pinions, a compound ring-sun gear operatively situated between the first and second sets of pinions, and a second sun gear formed on a second output shaft, the second sun gear being operatively mated with the second set of pinions. In the preferred embodiment the first set of pinions comprises two types of pinions of different diameters and different lengths alternating arranged on the first carrier ring. The first type of pinion is relatively wide and short and the second type of pinion is relatively narrow and long. An alternate embodiment of the planetary arrangement of the present invention is provided.
