    摘要: A drive and tension control system is provided for a winding machine of the precision type, the drive being fluid-actuated and the actuating fluid being supplied under a modulating influence controlled from the sensing of take-up tension in a manner that maintains such tension substantially constant by compensative regulation of spindle speed. The modulating influence is also specially arranged to act selectively so that the spindle assumes an idling speed whenever an end break releases take-up tension, and so that it stalls harmlessly whenever the end being wound is held against winding.

    摘要: A system of curing flue-cured tobacco in bulk including a barn structure having perforated floor defining a curing air inlet space therebelow and tobacco loading and curing space thereabove for receiving and supporting a plurality of bulk curing racks disposed in side-by-side relation and in a plurality of vertically spaced tiers, a return air space above the loading space and a curing air conditioning and circulating assembly including a housing having an inlet communicating with the upper return air space, an outlet communicating with the lower curing air space, damper controlled fresh air inlets adjacent the upper end thereof, an air heater, a blower and an improved air throttling mechanism for controlling the amount of curing air circulated throughout the cure so that (1) the yellowing of the leaves is accomplished with the curing air at the desired temperature and relative humidity flowing at a relatively slow rate within an operative range of between 10 and 50 cubic feet per minute for each square foot of effective curing area, and within a preferred range of 40 to 45 cfm and (2) drying of the leaves is accomplished with the curing air at the desired temperatures and relative humidities flowing at a relatively high rate within an operative range of 50 to 120 cfm for each square foot of effective curing area with an increase of at least 10 percent of the flow rate during yellowing and within a preferred range of 55 to 75 cfm and an increase of at least 30 percent.

    摘要: A hydraulic pressure intensifier system including a source of low pressure fluid, a tool including a movable clamping element operated hydraulically by low pressure fluid from an initial position to a second position in contact with the work to be clamped by the tool and then operated by high pressure fluid to a third position during which such work is clamped, a steppedpiston hydraulic intensifying unit for selectively intensifying the low pressure fluid from the source, and a hydraulic circuit including control means for sequentially supplying low pressure source fluid to the movable clamping element to cause movement thereof from its initial position to its second position, then, in response to the fluid pressure acting against the movable element increasing to a predetermined level, supplying fluid to operate the hydraulic pressure intensifier unit which supplies fluid at an intensified pressure to act against the movable element and move it to its third position, and then venting the fluid supply to the movable element to permit it to return to its initial position under the influence of a bias.

    摘要: A derrick having boom rotation brake release means operable to allow the boom to be rotated by side loading above a predetermined magnitude and thereby relieve the extent of side loading so as to avoid damage to the derrick. The boom is rotated by a hydraulic motor with which is associated a double relief valve that allows reverse operation of the motor as an idler pump while imposing a limited resistance to rotation. The brake release means is hydraulically operated to release a brake mechanism that normally prevents boom rotation, with the brake release means being connected in the hydraulic system of the derrick for operation to release the brake mechanism in response to an increase in the hydraulic pressure in the system occurring during operation of the rotation motor and also during operation of other hydraulically operated derrick functions to allow the boom to rotate during operation of the rotation motor and to be rotated by side loading during operation of the other derrick functions, with the resistance of the rotation motor preventing rotation until a predetermined magnitude of side loading is imposed. Deactuation of the rotation motor and all of the other derrick functions results in a pressure decrease that renders the brake release means inoperable to allow the brake mechanism to prevent further rotation of the boom when the derrick functions have been completed or at any time that it becomes necessary to stop boom rotation, e.g., to avoid damaging contact with an adjacent object.
