摘要: An oscillator for use within an implantable medical device is provided. The oscillator includes a resonator and a first switch coupled to a first resistive network. The first resistive network provides a first electrical path through the first switch and a second electrical path not going through the switch. The oscillator additionally includes a second switch coupled to a second resistive network. The second resistive network provides a third electrical path through the second switch and a fourth electrical path not going through the switch. Furthermore, the oscillator includes a transistor, the base terminal coupled with the first resistive network and the resonator and the emitter terminal coupled to the fourth resistor. The second electrical path with the first switch opened has a substantially higher resistance than the first electrical path when the first switch is closed. In addition, the fourth electrical path with the second switch opened has a substantially higher resistance than the third electrical path when the second switch is closed.

摘要: Devices and methods for detecting inadequate tissue perfusion by measuring a parameter other than heart rate such as vascular blood pressure, intracardiac blood pressure, vascular blood flow or tissue perfusion, in addition to or as a substitute for heart rate. Such devices and methods improve the accuracy of determining when and to what degree therapy should be administered to treat inadequate tissue perfusion, such as pre-syncope, syncope, or orthostatic hypotension, particularly in the absence of abnormal cardiac function.

摘要: A combined vascular access port and physiologic parameter monitoring device. The vascular access port and the monitoring device may be connected by a cooperative geometry. The vascular access port and the monitoring device may be implanted at the same time and in the same anatomical location (e.g., subcutaneous pocket). The monitoring device may include a telemetry unit that transmits physiological measurement data to a local data collection system (e.g., carried by the patient or located in the patient's home), which may re-transmit the data to a remote data collection system (e.g., located at a physician's office or clinic) via a suitable communication link.

摘要: A device measures pressures in animals and humans and includes a pressure transmission catheter (PTC) filled with a pressure transmitting medium and implantable in an area in having a physiological pressure. A transducer communicates with the pressure transmitting medium to provide a pressure signal representing variations in the physiologic pressure on electrical wires. A connecting catheter carries the electrical wires to signal processing and telemetry circuitry, which transmits a telemetry signal representing the pressure signal to a receiver external to the animal or human. A housing holds the signal processing and telemetry circuitry, but the transducer is remote from the housing. The device is particularly useful in measuring venous pressure, pulmonary pressure, bladder pressure, or intracranial pressure without significant head pressure artifact and with a sufficient dynamic response. One embodiment of the PTC includes a multi-durometer stem.

摘要: A vascular access port system including means for detecting and indicating the presence or absence of a needle. The detecting and indicating means may be carried in whole or in part by one of or both of the needle and/or the vascular access port. The detecting and indicating means may utilize a conductive needle, a mechanical switch, a magnetic switch, a Hall effect sensor, an electric field, a magnetic field, or an inductor, for example, for detection purposes. The vascular access port system permits the practitioner to confirm that the needle has been correctly inserted into the VAP, and notifies the patient and/or practitioner if the needle has been accidentally withdrawn.

摘要: An implantable sensor device, such as a pressure monitor, is implanted in the left ventricle (LV), in other heart chambers, or elsewhere, from which it wirelessly communicates pressure information to a remote communication device. The sensor device can be implanted using a placement catheter, an endoscope, or a laparoscope. The device can be secured entirely within the LV or heart wall, such as by using a corkscrew, a helical anchor, a harpoon, a threaded member, a hook, a barb, a fastener, a suture, or a mesh or coating for receiving fibrous tissue growth. The implantable sensor device provides less invasive chronic measurements of left ventricular blood pressure or other physical parameters. The wireless communication techniques include radio-telemetry, inductive coupling, passive transponders, and using the body as a conductor (referred to as “intracorporeal conductive communication” or a “personal area network”). Data from the receiver is downloadable into a computer for analysis or display.

摘要: Various devices, systems and methods for providing effective, long term and reliable use of pressure feedback in VADs. Exemplary embodiments are described which provide for direct LV pressure measurement, non-invasive calibration techniques to detect ventricular collapse and recalibrate the feedback mechanism, improved pressure sensor designs with reduced drift, and barometric pressure correction schemes. These devices and methods may be used alone or in combination with each other, and may also be combined with other feedback mechanisms.

摘要: In a method for determining a cardiac condition, a sensed physiologic signal for a period of time including multiple cardiac cycles is received. Using the received physiologic data, a heart beat frequency to be used as a reference frequency is determined. A plurality of harmonics of the received physiologic signal is extracted based on the reference frequency, wherein the harmonics correspond to a plurality of alternans frequencies. Amplitudes of at least some of the extracted harmonics are determined, and are used to determine an alternans indicator value.

摘要: Methods and apparatus of the present invention provide viscoelastic barrier materials for use as barriers in devices such as pressure measurement catheters. Improved barrier materials sometimes include at least one barrier material precursor combined with an amount of a softener. In other embodiments, two barrier material precursor components are combined without a softener to provide a fully cross-linked barrier material having certain softness characteristics. In various embodiments, a softener may be dimethyl silicone oil and may be combined with a barrier material precursor in an amount of between about 25% and about 45% by weight, relative to the final barrier material. Once a viscoelastic barrier material is prepared, it may be placed in a pressure transmission catheter or similar device, for example by injecting the gel into a lumen of the catheter via a syringe. Barrier materials of the present invention have one or more advantageous properties, such as a desired softness, full cross-linking, resistance to washout from a catheter, enhanced stability and/or the like.
