摘要： A communications system consisting of a server system that stores software applications, a broadcast system that broadcasts the software applications, and a multiplicity of portable clients that each include a receiver having a tuner that is selectively tunable to receive a selected one of the software applications broadcasted by the broadcast system. The portable clients can be any type of portable data communications device, such as a hand-held, palm-top, or notebook computing device, a PDA, an intelligent cellular phone, or any other personal multimedia appliance or Network Computer (NC). The broadcast system can be any suitable satellite or terrestrial air or cable broadcast system. For example, a CATV broadcast network, a DBS broadcast network, an HDTV broadcast network, or other appropriate broadcast network could be utilized. The software applications can consist of a broad spectrum of different software applications, such as word processing, video games, spreadsheets, address books, calendars, and the like. Each of the portable data communications devices includes a receiver that has a tuner that is selectively tunable to receive a selected one of a plurality of software applications broadcasted by a broadcast system, a user-interface that enables a user to select one of the broadcasted software applications for downloading, a processor for executing the downloaded software applications, and a modem for establishing a two-way communications link with a network control system. The two-way communications link includes a forward channel over which the portable data communications device can transmit client data to the network control system, and a return channel over which the network control system can transmit system data to the portable data communications device. The client data can include requests for unrecoverable software application data and client software download request data. The system data can include instructions for supervising the downloading of software applications, unrecoverable software application data, and download control data issued in response to the client software download request data. In one embodiment, the broadcast system broadcasts the software applications over different channels each occupying a different respective frequency band, and the tuner is selectively tunable to any selected one of the plurality of different frequency bands in order to receive the selected one of the broadcasted software applications.

摘要： A method is provided for a wireless message receiving apparatus to selectively and independently respond to received messages having multiple directory numbers associated therewith. Each directory number associated with the wireless communication unit is considered to be associated with one of a plurality of user personas or identities. For example, a first directory number may be associated with a nullworkernull identity, a second directory number may be associated with a nullhomemakernull identitynull and so on. When a caller dials one of the directory numbers, the caller is considered to be accessing the associated user persona. The communication unit, upon receiving a call, responsively identifies the persona that is being accessed and independently responds in accordance with a pre-stored general disposition instruction.

摘要： A method and system for generating multiple self-ID packets that are used for mapping a node topology is disclosed. The node topology is based on a computer system comprised of a high performance serial bus and a plurality of nodes coupled to the serial bus. Each node further includes an identification packet that is utilized for self-identifying itself on a network. In particular, a plurality of self-ID packets associated with the hardware actually present on the bus as well as a plurality of virtual nodes that are not actually present are generated during a self-ID process. Then, these self-ID packets are forwarded over the serial bus to identify themselves to other remaining nodes in the network. Thereafter, a topology mapping table from all of the self-ID packets is generated.

摘要： The system increases a resolution of at least a portion of a reference frame of video based on pixels in the reference frame and pixels in one or more succeeding target frames of the video. Specifically, the system selects a first block of pixels in the reference frame, and then locates, in N (Nnull1) target frames, one or more blocks of pixels that substantially correspond to the first block of pixels, where the N target frames are separate from the reference frame. In the particular case of MPEG-coded video, blocks in the N target frames are located using motion vector information present in the MPEG bitstream. Values of additional pixels are determined based on values of pixels in the first block and on values of pixels in the one or more blocks, whereafter the additional pixels are added among the pixels in the first block in order to increase the block's resolution.

The system comprises a synchronization circuit that is capable of obtaining a coarse frequency estimate of the single carrier signal and a fine frequency estimate of the single carrier signal. The system also comprises a three state machine for obtaining an accurate frequency estimate from three separately obtained frequency estimates. The system also comprises a DC estimator circuit that is capable of providing a time domain DC estimate. The system provides a pilot carrier recovery circuit for single carrier signals that has a linear transfer function.
