    Abstract: Waste management systems and capture funnels for use therewith are described. The waste management systems include a waste container, a reclamation system, a capture funnel, and a hose fluidly connecting the capture funnel to each of the waste container and the reclamation system. The capture funnels include a funnel having an inlet end and an outlet end, a water-function trigger actuatable to dispense water into the funnel, and an air-function trigger actuatable to dispense air into the funnel.

    Abstract: A waste processing system includes a storage tank to collect urine, a dose pump to mix a volume of urine pretreat with a volume of water and dispense the resultant pretreat mixture into the storage tank, and a sensor configured to monitor one or more properties of the pretreat mixture. The sensor is an optical sensor transmitting a light signal through the pretreat mixture. A method of monitoring a flow of a pretreat mixture of a waste processing system includes mixing a volume of urine pretreat with a volume of water at a dose pump defining a pretreat mixture, directing the pretreat mixture along a fluid pathway toward a storage tank, and measuring one or more properties of the pretreat mixture via an optical sensor disposed along the fluid pathway.

    Abstract: A deployable unit of a stay connected (STAY-C) environmental characterization system is provided. The deployable unit includes a body, a telescoping mounting spike that normally assumes a retracted position and selectively assumes an extended position at which the telescoping mounting spike is insertable into a surface for mounting the body, internal circuitry configured to characterize local environmental conditions, a power source configured to power the internal circuitry and first and second actuatable elements supported on the body. The first actuatable element is actuatable to cause the telescoping mounting spike to assume the extended position. The second actuatable element is actuatable to activate the internal circuitry.
