In this way, an automatic changeover is accomplished without restricting the subscriber's freedom.

An optical duplexer, configured as a directional coupler, is integrated into an optical coupling arrangement with a fiber optic pigtail, constructed in planar-optical hybrid technology on a substrate (1). To reduce the required surface area and decrease optical cross talk, the branch of the directional coupler (waveguide 6, branch 7) is sharply bent. The bend is equipped with a reflecting mirror (11) integrated opposite the inner edge (10) of the bend. Furthermore, the waveguiding end of the bent branch (7) is equipped with a cylindrical lens. A laser diode (8) is located before this, and a photodiode (5) is located before the angled end of the straight-line integrated waveguide (2).

With hands-free communication methods for stereophonic hands-free communication to transmit room acoustics, and with multichannel hands-free communication to reproduce different speaker locations at a conference table, the acoustical couplings between loudspeakers and microphones located in the room must especially be taken into consideration, in addition to the influence of ambient noise and the control of duplex communication situations. The n.sub.2 couplings take place in n-channel transmission systems. According to the invention, for each coupling, a coupling factor (dlm) is formed from the quotient of a short-term average value of the transmitted signal (ysam) assigned to a microphone, and the short-term average value of the received signal (xsam) assigned to a loudspeaker. With the coupling factor (dlm) weighted with the short-term average value (xsam), the transmission curve of a compander (1.1, 1.2) is automatically and briefly shifted in a way, so that ambient noise and echoes are suppressed in each transmission channel, and only the speech signal is transmitted.

The invention concerns an MCM type high-density assembly of integrated circuits having a high reliability by virtue of its design and the means employed in its implementation. The essential feature of the assembly is the presence of one or more interconnection substrates in addition to at least one substrate carrying a plurality of unencapsulated electronic chips connected to the interconnection substrate(s) by conventional microwiring techniques, preferably through one or more apertures in the substrates. The interconnection substrate(s) is or are advantageously of the multilayer type. The assembly is adapted to be encapsulated thereafter in a hermetically sealed case in the manner that is standard for MCM. In various embodiments the unencapsulated chips can be attached to one or both sides of a supporting substrate, respectively in conjunction with the use of one or two interconnection substrates with apertures; a plurality of sets of two or three substrates formed in this way can be stacked either in one case or in separate cases designed to be stacked; the integrated circuits can be conventional two-dimensional chips or "3D" blocks of circuits integrated in three dimensions. The invention also concerns the method of implementation. Applications in the fields of space, the military and onboard or portable electronics of high processing power or high memory capacity.

The present invention discloses a cell switching network which includes a cell switch (AS) coupled to a first terminal (T1) and a function unit (FU). The cell switch is also coupled to a second and a third terminal (T2,T3) via a cell switching access network (AAN). The first terminal exchanges information with the second terminal via the function unit (FU) and a predetermined part of the information is indicative of the information exchange between the first and the second terminal. The function unit is adapted to process the information and modifies the above predetermined part of the information so that it becomes indicative of information exchange between the function unit and the third terminal. The information is thereupon exchanged between the first and the third terminal via the function unit.
