    摘要: A reliable and efficient circuit for lighting a discharge lamp is described. An inverter accepts a direct current supply voltage and outputs an alternating current lamp voltage to drive the discharge lamp at a relatively high frequency. In one embodiment, the inverter includes semiconductor switches in a full-bridge configuration, a transformer feedback circuit to control the semiconductor switches, and a series L-C resonant circuit. In one embodiment, the inverter includes semiconductor switches in a half-bridge configuration, a transformer feedback circuit to control the semiconductor switches, and a series L-C resonant circuit. The inverter can drive multiple discharge lamps in a parallel configuration. A bypass circuit can also be coupled across a cathode of the discharge lamp to extend the life of the discharge lamp. The bypass circuit activates when a lamp cathode wears out.

    摘要: In a gas-filled arrester, a pair of main electrodes and a ground electrode are air-tightly fitted to an insulating tubular member. A springy, electrically-conductive short-circuiting element having an arcuate shape is fitted around the outer wall of the ground electrode. The short-circuiting element includes extension portions extending along the outer wall of the insulating tubular member to the respective main electrodes, and these extension portions are made to face the main electrodes by utilization of spring characteristics thereof with a certain gap maintained and with a thermally-fusible spacer interposed. With this construction, if the arrester is overheated, the spacer is thermally fused by heat and therefore the extension portions electrically contact the main electrodes due to the spring characteristics thereof. Since the main electrodes are thus short-circuited to the ground electrode, the arrester is prevented from failing.

    摘要: An electronic touch control light socket used to convert a lamp to touch-sensitive use which includes a circuit housing and a light bulb insertion socket mounted thereto which together are adapted for installation within a standard light socket shell of a lamp in place of a standard light socket. A touch sensing circuit in the circuit housing has a self-compensating subcircuit to eliminate the effects of slower changing ambient capacitance of the lamp in order to detect touching of the lamp by monitoring rapid changes in lamp capacitance. A spring contact connected to the circuit is attached to the circuit housing and projects along a side thereof for placement between the circuit housing exterior and the interior surface of the light socket shell and in electrical contact with a conductive portion of the light socket shell when the circuit housing and insertion socket are installed within the light socket shell. The spring contact thereby is inaccessible from the exterior of the lamp and is adapted to convey to the circuit an electrical touch-responsive input signal generated when a person touches a conductive exterior portion of the lamp connected to the conductive portion of the light socket shell. The circuit has an operating mode control subcircuit actuatable by a manually-operable control knob for selecting the operating mode of the circuit, e.g. ON/OFF, 4-Level, or 5-Level dimmer sequences.

This allows a circuit to be easily and reliably coupled to the electrical terminals having very fine pitch and the formation of the wiring pattern of a coupling portion with the circuit portion can be easily performed and results in an arrangement of very small size. The flexible printed circuit board can be manufactured at low cost and the yield can be increased. Also, circuit elements such as resistors can be mounted on the wiring pattern without changing the wiring pitch.

    摘要: In a discharge tube lighting system for use in a vehicle, a heat generating element, which is made of metal material, is formed on an outer surface of a tube element of the discharge tube along the longitudinal direction of the tube element, and a temperature detecting element is provided on a surface of the heat generating element. The heat generating element is electrically driven to heat the discharge tube at a starting period of lighting the discharge tube when a temperature of the heat generating element detected by the temperature detecting element is lower than a predetermined temperature. The heat generating element is formed in a rectangular shape and conformally disposed on a portion of the tube. The heater element has first and second ends which are disposed with respect to the electrodes of the tube to cause an electric field to be provided between each electrode and the corresponding end of the heater element.
