An improved footwear device is user customizable permitting selective alteration of the footwear appearance. Each footwear device is made from layers of rubber or similar footwear material. A first layer forms a bottom (outsole) that impacts the pathway surface. A second layer or insole forms a working surface to protect the user foot from impacts, pathway contours and debris. The cosmetic alteration portion of the device comprises three loops formed from a single strand of fabric such as cotton or similar material. This strand is threaded through three strategically positioned holes perforating the second or insole layer; then, the strand is folded in such a fashion that three loops are formed, one for each hole. Next, the two layers are adhesively attached one to another so as to form a completed device. A strip of material is then threaded through the protruding loops so as to change the footwear's appearance.

A sandal includes a sole and a drainage system. The sole is molded from a resilient material and has a top surface for supporting a human foot, and a bottom surface for contacting a walking surface. Further, the sole defines on the top surface a forwardmost toe region, an intermediate ball region, an intermediate arch region and a rearmost heel region that are of different heights to follow an anatomical contour of an undersurface of the human foot. The drainage system has a plurality of grooves defined throughout the top surface of the sole to define a plurality of islands of different heights on the toe, ball, arch and heel regions of the sole. The grooves have different slopes and extend over the toe, ball, arch and heel regions in a manner which guides liquid to flow laterally out of the sole.

Sole structure 1 includes a sole body 2 having a sole bottom surface 20 on a ground surface side and a sole top surface 21 on the opposite side thereof, a plurality of first protrusions 3 formed of elastic member and disposed on the sole bottom surface 20, and a plurality of second protrusions 4 formed of elastic member, disposed on the sole top surface 21 and located at positions corresponding respectively to positions of the first protrusions 3. A sectional shape of the first protrusion 3 is formed so that it gradually becomes smaller as it leaves the sole bottom surface 20. A distal end portion of the first protrusion 3 is formed of an arcuate shaped surface that protrudes downwardly. A sectional shape of the second protrusion 4 is formed so that it gradually becomes smaller as it leaves the sole top surface 21. A distal end portion of the second protrusion 4 is formed of an arcuate shaped surface that protrudes upwardly.
