摘要: Flat glass in ribbon form is manufactured at an increased rate on a molten metal bath by pouring molten glass on to the bath continuously to feed a spreading layer of molten glass on the bath. Inwardly and forwardly directed forces are mechanically applied to the margins of the spread molten glass layer to regulate the extent of that spread as well as to accelerate the glass and impose a width reduction to retain a required thickness of ribbon despite the acceleration of the glass. This thickness is subsequently reduced by the effect of traction advancing the ribbon.

摘要: A TOUGHENED GLASS ARTICLE, IN PARTICULAR A SHEET OF SODA-LIME-SILICA GLASS OF THICKNESS IN THE RANGE 4 MM. TO 12 MM. HAS A CENTRAL TENSILE STRESS IN THE RANGE 500 KG./CM.2 TO 1200 KL./CM2 AND A STRESS RATIO OF SURFACE COMPRESSIVE STRESS TO CENTRAL TENSILE STRESS IN THE 2:1 TO 4:1. A TOUGHENED GLASS SHEET MAY BE EMBODIED IN A LAMINATED ASSEMBLY FOR EXAMPLE AN AIRCRAFT WINDSCREEN ASSEMBLY.

摘要: A glass article, e.g. an all-glass multiple glazing unit, is manufactured by uniting at least two glass parts by a continuous weld. The regions of the glass parts to be united are heated to soften the regions and to form the desired weld. this step of heating the region is performed by passing electrical heating currents through said region along two different paths of substantially equal resistance.

摘要: Apparatus for stacking a succession of sheets generally vertically on a support surface, comprises a sheet carrying face which is presented generally horizontally beneath a sheet to be stacked, and then moved to a substantially vertical position with the sheet. Means are provided to engage the lower edge of the sheet and to carry the lower edge into a desired position on the support surface. The succession of sheets thereby form a stack of sheets, e.g. on a pallet.

摘要: HOLLOW GLASS ARTICLES ARE TREATED ELECTROLYTICALLY BY SEATING EACH ARTICLE ON A SOLID ELECTRICAL CONDUCTOR CONTACTING ONE FACE OF THE ARTICLE, CONTACTING THE OTHER FACE WITH A BODY OF MOLTEN ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTIVE MATERIAL, AND PASSING AN ELECTRIC CURRENT FROM THE MOLTEN BODY INTO THE GLASS TO CAUSE A SURFACE CHANGE IN THE ARTICLE. GLASS ARTICLES ARE TINTED BY THIS METHOD, IN PARTICULAR MOULDED GLASS ARTICLES, E.G. MOULDED GLASS HALF-BRICKS OR TILES, WHICH THEREBY ACQUIRE A DESIRED COLOUR.

摘要: Float glass is manufactured with predetermined characteristics imparted to the glass by a body of molten material which contacts a surface of the glass and the length of the body of molten material, in the direction of relative movement between the glass and the body, is maintained constant in any section through the body in that direction. This is accomplished by forming the downstream portion of the locating member as an element which is movable with respect to an upstream portion of the locating member to compensate for different rates of erosion thereof. Alternatively, the downstream portion is formed of a material which is more erosion resistant than upstream portions of the locating member. In a further embodiment, the entire lower surface of the locating member is made movable with respect to the upper portion so as to enable the entire lower surface to be renewed.
