Abstract:
Systems and methods are described for selecting media content based on travel information. A set of media content items is maintained. Each media content items having a respective associated spoiler metadata item that lists a spoiler time value that corresponds to a time when a spoiler event occurs in a respective media content item. Travel information related to a planned trip is received from a user. A trip duration value is determined based on the received travel information. The trip duration value is compared to a spoiler time value of a spoiler metadata item associated with a media content item of the set of media content items. In response to determining that the spoiler time value exceeds the trip duration value, the media content item is provided for display during the planned trip.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for controlling permissions to change parental control settings based on vocal characteristics of a user. In some aspects, the media guidance application may receive a voice command from a user to update a parental control setting. The media guidance application may determine both what the requested change is and an age (or age range) of the user is who is attempting to change the parental control setting based on vocal characteristics of the voice command. If the media guidance application determines that an age range associated with the user exceeds an age associated with the requested change to the parental control setting, the media guidance application may update the parental control setting at a media device based on the requested change. Accordingly, the media guidance application may allow only users of appropriate ages to change parental control settings at the media device.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided herein for substituting an updated segment of media guidance data that no longer includes a selected media asset identifier with another segment of media guidance data that includes the selected media asset identifier. A media guidance application may determine, following an update to a segment of media guidance data, that a selected media asset identifier, associated with a given media asset classifier, is no longer included in the updated segment of media guidance data. The media guidance application may retrieve another segment of media guidance data that is associated with the given media asset classifier and that includes the selected media asset identifier.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for reducing eye strain for multiple users are described herein. The method includes calculating, for each viewer, a metric representing a degree of eye strain of the viewer based on eye activity of the first viewer. The method further involves determining whether each metric is within a range indicating an acceptable degree of eye strain for each viewer. If a metric is not within the range indicating an acceptable degree of eye strain, then, for each viewer, a subset of display settings that is known to cause the metric to be within the viewer's range is identified. The method further involves identifying an additional subset of display settings, where the additional subset is made up of display settings that are also in each viewer's subset. A display setting is selected from this additional subset, and the display is generated according to the selected display setting.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for allocating media assets to a plurality of transport streams in a mixed service system to allow simultaneous receipt of at least two media assets using a single stream selector are provided. The mix-service content delivery system comprises a content delivery server comprising control circuitry. At a first time, the first instance of the at least two media assets may be allocated to different transport streams. A user request to simultaneously receive the at least two media assets may be received. A viewing history based on the user request may be generated during a predetermined time period. At a second time after the first time, the control circuitry may allocate a second instance of the at least two media assets to a same transport stream of the plurality of transport streams. The allocations may be determined based on the generated viewing history.
