    Abstract: Aspects analyze published items to identify and distinguish a graphic image content or text string content element from other elements within the content of the published item, wherein the item is published with user comments. In response to a selection of the distinguished element, metadata and text content of the comments are analyzed to identify associations to the selected element. Aspects differentially display a subset of the comments in association with the published item, relative to display of remaining others of the comments, in response to determining that the analyzed metadata or analyzed text content of the subset of comments is associated with the selected element, and that the analyzed metadata or analyzed text content of the remaining others of the comments is not associated with the selected element.

    Abstract: Methods and systems for simultaneous message blocking and delivery are disclosed. A method includes: receiving, by a computing device, from a first user, a first message and a request to transmit the first message as a simultaneous message; receiving, by the computing device, an additional message from each of at least one additional user; determining, by the computing device, using natural language processing, a similarity score for each of the additional messages; and in response to the similarity score for each of the additional messages exceeding a predetermined threshold, the computing device transmitting the first message and the additional messages.

    Abstract: A method and system for automatically characterizing retail zones is provided. The method includes determining, via a mobile device of a user, that a user has entered a first zone of a plurality of zones internal to a first entity structure. Product information is scanned via the mobile device in response to the user locating a first product. The product information describes the first product. Historical product and zone related data is analyzed with respect to the first zone and the product information and it is determined, based on the analysis, if the first product is currently associated with being located within the first zone.

    Abstract: A method, computer system, and computer program product for using sensor data to control message delivery to a user. The method may include defining one or more criteria which may include a message delivery, sensor, bypass, or rerouting criterion. The message delivery criterion may include a rule for delivering messages. The method may include operations performed by a device communicating with a communications network. The device may have a computer and may receive a message from a user of a plurality of users and data from a sensor. The method may determine whether the sensor data meets the message delivery criterion and suppress a message notification based on the message delivery criterion. In some embodiments, the sensor is an image sensor and the method includes determining that content of an image captured by the image sensor includes an activity corresponding with a message delivery criterion.

    Abstract: Disclosed embodiments provide techniques for managing custom media overlays for social media applications. Custom media overlays, sometimes referred to as “filters,” “lenses,” or “effects,” can be used to augment a digital image, providing entertainment and increasing engagement in social media applications. In various situations, it may be desirable to reveal a custom media overlay only after an associated event has occurred. Disclosed embodiments allow a custom media overlay to be defined and associated with an event. Prior to the event occurrence, the custom media overlay is only available to a first subset of users. Once the event occurs, the custom media overlay is provided to a second subset of users. In this way, the custom media overlay is concealed from the second subset of users until the event occurs.

    Abstract: A product-recommendation engine of an ecommerce system receives notice that a potential online purchaser has selected an item as a gift for an online recipient user. The engine identifies characteristic patterns of the recipient based on the recipient's purchase history, gift-giving history, demographics, social-media postings, relationship with the purchaser, or other contextual information that may be retrieved or inferred through methods such as data-mining, artificial intelligence, online analytics, or pattern-matching. The engine then uses these patterns to select and recommend to the purchaser one or more alternate gifts that the recipient is likely to prefer over the purchaser's original choice. The engine then uses machine-learning to refine its selection procedure as a function of whether the purchaser accepts or rejects the recommendations.

    Abstract: A method for censoring a broadcast includes sending a notification that viewing content is being recorded by a broadcaster and available for viewing. They method also includes identifying one or more viewers that have accepted the notification and identifying the one or more viewer's viewers' relationship level to the broadcaster. The method also includes generating a buffer for the viewer. The method also includes determining a sensitive content occurrence frequency of the broadcaster and adjusting the buffer length based on the relationship level for the viewer. The method also includes parsing the broadcast of the broadcaster to identify sensitive viewing content, and, in response to a determination that the sensitive viewing content exceeds the viewer's relationship level, censoring the sensitive viewing content based on the adjusted buffer length of a buffered version of the broadcast transmitted to the viewer.
