A versatile cross connecting device is provided to allow, alternatively, either bridging or backing between adjacent metal studs. Such metal studs are "U-shaped" members with a broad base and narrower sides of uniform height. The studs are arranged in vertical alignment with their flat sides defining the planes of wall surfaces on opposite sides of the studs. The cross connecting device is formed with a channel having a base and sides that extend outwardly from the base. The channel is of a width equal to the width of the studs. The length of the channel is equal to the distance between a base of one of the studs and the closest extremities of the sides of an adjacent stud. The cross connecting device is provided with a transverse end plate located at one end of the channel and extending perpendicular to the alignment of the channel and also a tongue at the opposite end of the channel. The tongue has a proximal portion that extends outwardly from the channel base and a terminal portion that extends parallel to the end plate. The tongue fits between the sides of a stud. The length of the device between the end plate and the terminal portion of the tongue spans the distance between the bases of adjacent studs. The cross connecting device can thereby be mounted either with the channel sides thereof flush with the sides of the studs between which the device is connected, or with the base of the channel flush with the sides of the studs defining the plane of a wall. The cross connecting device is connected to the studs with metal screws.

A demountable partitioning system comprises multi-purpose aluminum extrustions adapted to be snap-fitted together in a number of different configurations to suit different constructional and system design requirements. The system centers around two universal sections (FW1,FW11) each in the form of a rectangular channel open at one side and provided with formations (3,4,5) enabling other extrustions selected from a glazing infill section (FW3), a blank end section (FW4), and a door infill section (FW5) each provided with complementary formations (8,10) to be snap-fitted onto one or more sides of the universal section (FW1,FW11). Extruded aluminum plastic or glazing channels (FW6,FW7,FW8) capable of engaging with a number of different glazing beads (FG) can be snap-fitted with the universal sections (FW1,FW11) and with the glazing infill (FW3) for assembling single or double glazing as desired to the universal sections (FW1,FW11). The universal sections (FW1,FW11) also can engage with wall panels of a partitioning installation. Fixing clips (FS1,FS2,FS3 and FS 4) enable gapless panel joints to be made, and the system further includes corner and reducing sections (FW9,FW10) and wiring ducting sections (FW13,FW14,FW15).

A prefabricated load-bearing wall panel has a layer of concrete attached to a plurality of spaced apart parallel metal wall studs. The slab support is achieved by flexible bolsters secured at spaced locations to each stud and fastened to a reinforcing mesh embedded in the concrete slab. The bolsters, which are partially embedded in the slab, provide compressive and tensile support for the slab on the studs in a direction generally perpendicular to the general plane of the slab. In addition, the wall panel exhibits a synergistic effect in terms of composite design, wind load strength and shear strength.

The present invention comprises a portable wall structure for use on the top floor of a multiple story building. The wall structure includes a metal cap forming the top of a wall structure, a metal floor track forming the bottom of the wall structure, and a series of channeled load-bearing studs that are secured vertically between the cap member and the floor track member. These vertical studs are composed of steel of about 26 gauge thickness. This wall structure forms a separate unit which may be prefabricated and separately transported to a building construction site for use on the top floor of a multiple story building. Some parts, such as top plates, corners, door surrounds, and window surrounds, made of wood, are included in some embodiments of the invention.

A structural insulating panel particularly adapted for use in static structures for containing or conveying a body of fluid at a temperature elevated with respect to the surrounding environment is disclosed. The panel comprises a supporting member from which is hung an inside material retaining sheet having an angled portion along a lower edge forming a shelf upon which is supported a block of insulating material. A metal facing sheet is positioned on the outside of the insulating material and spaced from the inside material retaining sheet by a plurality of tubular spacer means while protecting the interstitial block of insulating material. The panel is secured together as a working unit by a plurality of screw-threaded fasteners threaded onto studs extending from the horizontal supporting member. A plurality of uniformly dimensioned panels is used in combination with an underlying framework to construct a desired structure with a minimum amount of skilled labor.

A septum extends between the channel members being joined to said face portions intermediate each set of said flanges so that each channel member provides two channels to receive sound insulating material which may be in the shape of thin boards or packs. At the top and bottom are covers which close my panel assembly. A method of forming the assembly first provides the septum with reinforcing means which are joined to the channel member face portions.
