    摘要: An apparatus in an electronic control system allows two or three wire operation. A power supply can supply power to the enclosed circuitry in both two and three wire installations. Two separate zero cross detectors are used such that timing information can be collected in both two and three wire installations. Both zero cross detectors are monitored and are used to automatically configure the electronic control. Over voltage circuitry senses an over voltage condition across a MOSFET which is in the off state and turns the MOSFET on so that it desirably will not reach the avalanche region. Over current circuitry senses when the current through the MOSFETs has exceeded a predetermined current threshold and then turns the MOSFETs off so they do not exceed the MOSFETs' safe operating area (SOA) curve. Latching circuitry is employed to keep the protection circuitry in effect even after a fault condition has cleared. Lockout circuitry is used to prevent one protection circuit from tripping after the other circuit has already tripped from a fault condition. The protection circuitry output is desirably configured such that it can bypass and override the normal turn on and turn off impedance and act virtually directly on the gates of the MOSFETs. Preferably, the system has a high efficiency switching type power supply in parallel with a low frequency controllably conductive device.

    摘要: A submarine branching unit is disclosed that includes a termination for each of at least three line cables and a termination to sea ground. A relay is positioned between each pair of cable terminations. When current flows between two of the cables, the intermediary relay will become energized and cause a contact to connect the third cable to the sea-ground termination. To avoid dangerous surges in current to sea ground when a relay trips, a current limiter is placed in series with the sea ground termination.

    摘要: A fuse apparatus (1) is provided for selectively interrupting a load current (Ia) flowing between a pair of associated conductor leads. The fuse apparatus includes at least two spaced apart electrically conductive contact elements (5) operatively connected with the associated conductor leads. A fuse element (7) is connected to the contact elements (5) using an electrically conductive connection material (9) to allow the current (Ia) to flow between the pair of associated conductor leads. The connection material (9) is adapted to electrically disconnect the fuse element (7) from the contact elements (5) when the current (Ia) exceeds a predetermined current intensity. The connection material (9) has an intrinsic electrical transition resistance characteristic whereby the material develops a temperature in proportion to an intensity of the current. The connection material melts as the current increases to separate the fuse element from the contact elements.

    摘要: A switch status sensor is provided for counting on/off events of a switch of a water meter. When an on/off event is detected by a microcontroller, the microcontroller supplies a “signature” signal, which is distinguishable from electromagnetic noise, to the switch. If this “signature” signal is detected as having passed through the switch by the microcontroller, then it can be confirmed that the switch is closed. Alternatively, if the “signature” signal is not detected as having passed through the switch by the microcontroller, then it is verified that the switch is open. Thus, the switch status sensor can distinguish between false switch events caused by electromagnetic noise and true on/off events of the switch.

    摘要: An output stage for an electronic sensor including two transistors connected in series to a junction therebetween to form a push/pull arrangement relative to a pair of supply lines provided with fixed supply voltages that are different for each line that are connected with different ones of the two transistors. The junction between the two transistors being connected to a sensor output line. Each of the transistors is driven by a respective drive line from an amplifier which receives an input signal corresponding to a sensor input signal. A fault detecting circuit is provided which includes circuitry to detect an open circuit fault condition in either of the two fixed voltage supply lines to disconnect the signal drive line leading to the associated one of the two transistors which is connected to the respective supply line that has been detected to have an open circuit fault. This disconnecting of the drive line from the associated transistor prevents back feed from the sensor output line from being coupled back to through the transistor and its drive line to the electronic sensor.

    摘要: The switching di/dt and switching dv/dt of a MOS gate controlled ("MOS-gated") power device are controlled by respectively controlling the voltage and current waveforms. Open loop control of the turn-on of the MOS-gated device is provided by coupling a common terminal of a current generator circuit, which provides a current to the gate of the MOS device, to a first resistor for controlling the switching dv/dt. At the detection of a negative dv/dt, the common terminal of the current generator circuit is then coupled to a second resistor for controlling the switching di/dt. The first and second resistors are, in turn, coupled to the source terminal fo the MOS-gated device. An analogous operation provides turn-off control of the MOS-gated power device. Closed loop control is also provided by measuring the switching dv/dt and the switching di/dt which are then fed back to the circuit to control the current supplied to the gate of the MOS-gated device. The switching di/dt can be measured by measuring the voltage difference across the length of a calibrated wire bond having a predetermined length and diameter.
