Abstract:
A printer cable that is configured for coupling to a printer having an enclosure and a printer port. The printer cable includes a first connector for connecting to the printer port and a second connector for coupling to a host device (e.g., a personal computer (PC)). The printer cable includes a printer formatter for providing formatting services to the printer via the first connector. Since the printer formatter is integrated into the printer cable, the printer formatter is external to the printer enclosure and is easily removable and configurable by a user.
Abstract:
A method of revising multi-component software in a multifunctional printer, including revising at least one software component of the multi-component software, qualifying the multi-component software, bundling the multi-component software as a software bundle; and loading the software bundle on to a multifunctional printer. Additional methods and/or devices are also included.
Abstract:
In an exemplary method, an imaging device that is logically connected to at least one host computer system receives installation of a firmware upgrade. The firmware upgrade includes at least one new feature that is not accessible to the host(s) without a driver upgrade. The firmware upgrade includes the driver upgrade and/or driver upgrade information. In response to receiving installation of the firmware upgrade, the imaging device identifies the host(s) to which it is logically connected. The imaging device sends the driver upgrade and/or the driver upgrade information to the host(s).
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus performing a printing operation with respect to printing data transmitted from an external device, the image forming apparatus including a printing engine unit performing the printing operation with respect to the printing data, a printing control unit connectable to the external device, controlling the printing engine unit to perform the printing operation with respect to the printing data transmitted from the external device, and an image processing unit removably disposed in the image forming apparatus, transforming the printing data transmitted from the external device to image data to be processed by the printing engine unit, wherein the image processing unit is connected to the printing control unit through a local BUS when the image processing unit is mounted in the image forming apparatus.
Abstract:
In an imaging system including firmware and a user interface control panel, a firmware-based internal page component is capable of receiving and registering internal page data from a source external to the page component itself. The internal page component can install a control panel display menu item corresponding to the registered internal page, and then capture user control panel input relating to that page. The component can then open a data pipe, and invoke the internal page data. The data pipe can be provided in the form of a VIO channel, e.g., invoking a print job, or can involve converting internal page data to a format capable of being viewed by a web browser. The internal page component can be installed as a part of the firmware of the imaging system. Internal page data can be received from a source external to the imaging system firmware, for example, from a storage device such as a flash disk, RAM disk, or hard disk. The internal page component can be embodied as a firmware-based dynamic internal page system. The internal page system includes an internal page registration mechanism adapted and constructed to register internal pages from page sources external to the firmware of the imaging system. The internal page system also includes an internal page retrieval mechanism adapted and constructed to selectively retrieve internal pages from the page sources. A method of handling internal pages in an imaging system including firmware is also provided.
Abstract:
A printer capable of controlling the operation capability of an image-forming device according to a user's utilization mode. Operation capability designation information for designating the operation capability of the image-forming device is rewritably held in an EEPROM (34) provided in the print controller (30) of the image forming device. The CPU (31) of the print controller (30) judges whether or not a printing request sent from a computer (40) falls within a capability range designated by the held operation capability designation information. If within a capability range, a print engine (10) is caused to form an image. As the capability, a usable amount of ink to be contained in an ink cartridge (20) can be set.
Abstract:
A printer receives image information from a host computer and performs printing based on the image information. When an optional unit is newly attached to the printer, the printer changes the device ID which is selected from an ID ROM in accordance with the optional unit. Then output from an interface circuit is changed so that the host computer detects the change of the output from the interface circuit. The host computer makes a device-ID request to the printer to obtain the device ID corresponding to the optional device. Then the host computer determines whether or not a printer driver which is currently operative corresponds to the printer with the newly-attached optional device.
Abstract:
A method of delivering an application, includes: accepting a delivery request instruction for an application; acquiring device information on an optional device installed to a device having output the delivery request instruction for the application; determining whether or not the optional device compatible with an operating condition of the application pertaining to the delivery request instruction is installed on the basis of the acquired device information; and controlling delivery of the application to the device.
Abstract:
An information processing apparatus gives an update notification of a firmware of the image printing apparatus and an update notification of a printer driver necessary for the information processing apparatus. The information processing apparatus having a driver that causes the image printing apparatus to execute image printing, includes: a driver information obtaining unit configured to obtain information on firmware update of the image printing apparatus and information on a required version of the driver; an information analysis unit configured to compare a current version of the driver and the information on the required version obtained by the driver information obtaining unit; and a display controlling unit configured to display an update notification screen based on a result analyzed by the information analysis unit and the information on the firmware update obtained by the driver information obtaining unit.
Abstract:
An image forming device in the present application includes a reception unit configured to receive from an information processing device connected to the image forming device information representing a predetermined operating system operating in the information processing device, a setting unit configured to, in response to the reception unit receiving the information, set a structure of a USB device interface to be notified to the information processing device, and a notification unit configured to notify the information processing device of the structure of the USB device interface set by the setting unit.
