    Abstract: A rivet is applied from a rear surface of a fabric for mounting a burr on a front surface of the fabric. The rivet comprises a disk-shaped base, and a shank projecting from and concentrically with the base. The base includes an annular recess around a proximal end of the shank, which is depressed in a direction opposite to the shank-projecting direction, and a flange radially outward from the recess. The flange includes a plurality of bumps which are raised from an upper surface in the shank-projecting direction. The bumps may be provided on the upper surface of the flange at equal circumferential intervals, and a top of each of the bumps may be a curved face. The recess may have an inclined outer surface adjacent to the flange. Each of the bumps may have an inclined inner surface extending continuously from the inclined outer surface of the recess.

    Abstract: A method and fastener assembly adapted to attach a button to a material via a fastener. The fastener includes a cross member having at least one pin with a first end connected to the cross member and a second end having a sharpened tip. The pins are adapted to slide into apertures in a button. The pin is then pushed through the material until the cross member and button seat against the front of the material. An extended length of the pin protruding through the back side of the material is bent over against the back side of the material. A protective shield having with an adhesive is bonded over the bent length of the pins to secure the fastener and button in place on the material.

    Abstract: A fastening device is provided to secure a sagging headliner to the interior roof portion of a motor vehicle. The device consists essentially of an upholstery type button which has been modified by attaching thereto a V-shaped member made from spring steel wire. The device is installed in the ceiling of the vehicle by squeezing the two prongs of the V-shaped member into a sharp point, and then pushing the point through the headliner and into a cardboard backing. When the button has been fully pushed in, the prongs of the V-shaped member will spread apart under the force of the flexed steel, and thereby hold the button, and the headliner, up against the roof of the car.
