Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for automatically discovering applications/clusters in a network and mapping dependencies between the applications/clusters. A network monitoring system can capture network flow data using sensors executing on physical and/or virtual servers of the network and sensors executing on networking devices connected to the servers. The system can determine a graph including nodes, representing at least the servers, and edges, between pairs of the nodes of the graph indicating the network flow data includes one or more observed flows between pairs of the servers represented by the pairs of the nodes. The system can determine a dependency map, including representations of clusters of the servers and representations of dependencies between the clusters, based on the graph. The system can display a first representation of a first cluster of the dependency map and information indicating a confidence level of identifying the first cluster.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media are disclosed for detecting, identifying, and/or assessing hidden vulnerabilities in an enterprise network. In one example, a device may have one or more memories storing computer-readable instructions and one or more processors configured to execute the computer-readable instructions to receive vulnerability data of network components within an enterprise network. The vulnerability data can include identification of one or more vulnerabilities detected within the enterprise network. The device can then determine a vulnerability frequency and a machine frequency associated with each of the one or more vulnerabilities. The device can then determine a vulnerability score for each of the one or more vulnerabilities based on the vulnerability frequency and an inverse of the machine frequency, to yield a plurality of vulnerability scores. The device can then rank the one or more vulnerabilities based on the plurality of vulnerability scores.

Abstract: An approach for detecting anomalous flows in a network using header field entropy. This can be useful in detecting anomalous or malicious traffic that may attempt to “hide” or inject itself into legitimate flows. A malicious endpoint might attempt to send a control message in underutilized header fields or might try to inject illegitimate data into a legitimate flow. These illegitimate flows will likely demonstrate header field entropy that is higher than legitimate flows. Detecting anomalous flows using header field entropy can help detect malicious endpoints.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for hierarchichal sharding of flows from sensors to collectors. A first collector can receive a first portion of a network flow from a first capturing agent and determine that a second portion of the network flow was not received from the first capturing agent. The first collector can then send the first portion of the network flow to a second collector. A third collector can receive the second portion of the network flow from a second capturing agent and determine that the third collector did not receive the first portion of the network flow. The third collector can then send the second portion of the network flow to the second collector. The second collector can then aggregate the first portion and second portion of the network flow to yield the entire portion of the network flow.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure relate to methods for detecting a link failure between the first network device and a destination node, receiving a data packet addressed to the destination node, and rewriting encapsulation information of the first data packet. Subsequent to rewriting the encapsulation information of the first data packet, the first data packet is forwarded to a second network device (e.g., using updated address information in the packet header), wherein the second network device is paired with the first network device in the virtual port channel. In certain aspects, systems and computer readable media are also provided.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for identifying bogon addresses. A system can obtain an indication of address spaces in a network. The indication can be based on route advertisements transmitted by routers associated with the network. The system can receive a report generated by a capturing agent deployed on a host. The report can identify a flow captured by the capturing agent at the host. The system can identify a network address associated with the flow and, based on the indication of address spaces, the system can determine whether the network address is within the address spaces in the network. When the network address is not within the address spaces in the network, the system can determine that the network address is a bogon address. When the network address is within the address spaces in the network, the system can determine that the network address is not a bogon address.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for annotating process and user information for network flows. In some embodiments, a capturing agent, executing on a first device in a network, can monitor a network flow associated with the first device. The first device can be, for example, a virtual machine, a hypervisor, a server, or a network device. Next, the capturing agent can generate a control flow based on the network flow. The control flow may include metadata that describes the network flow. The capturing agent can then determine which process executing on the first device is associated with the network flow and label the control flow with this information. Finally, the capturing agent can transmit the labeled control flow to a second device, such as a collector, in the network.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for attack surface score computation can include the following processes. An attack surface score service receives information identifying open ports associated with an application. The attack surface score service determines an attack surface score for the application based on the information and common attack ports. A policy engine determines whether to implement a policy for reducing vulnerability of the application to attacks to yield a determination. The policy engine implements a vulnerability reduction policy based on the determination.

Abstract: A method provides for receiving network traffic from a host having a host IP address and operating in a data center, and analyzing a malware tracker for IP addresses of hosts having been infected by a malware to yield an analysis. When the analysis indicates that the host IP address has been used to communicate with an external host infected by the malware to yield an indication, the method includes assigning a reputation score, based on the indication, to the host. The method can further include applying a conditional policy associated with using the host based on the reputation score. The reputation score can include a reduced reputation score from a previous reputation score for the host.

Abstract: Systems and methods provide for enriching flow data to analyze network security, availability, and compliance. A network analytics system can capture flow data and metadata from network elements. The network analytics system can enrich the flow data by in-line association of the flow data and metadata. The network analytics system can generate multiple planes with each plane representing a dimension of enriched flow data. The network analytics system can generate nodes for the planes with each node representing a unique value or set of values for the dimensions represented by planes. The network analytics system can generate edges for the nodes of the planes with each edge representing a flow between endpoints corresponding to the nodes. The network analytics system can update the planes in response to an interaction with the planes or in response to a query.
