    Abstract: An invention to perform a method of cell measurement in a wireless network, wherein the wireless network comprises a plurality of frequency layers, the invention configured to: determine a Measurement Gap Length, MGL, for each one of the plurality of frequency layers operational in the wireless network; determine a gap bitmap to indicate a measurement gap availability in a time sequence for each one of the plurality of frequency layers of the wireless network; and transmit gap assistance information for each one of the plurality of frequency layers of the wireless network to a User Equipment, wherein the gap assistance information comprises at least the determined Measurement Gap Length and the determined gap bitmap.

    Abstract: Technology for a user equipment (UE) using a self-contained scheduling resource to communicate with an eNodeB within a wireless communication network is disclosed. The UE can select, at the UE, a selected eNodeB transmission (Tx) beam and a selected UE reception (Rx) beam based on a highest power beamforming reference signal (BRS) received power (BRS-RP). The UE can signal a transceiver of the UE to transmit to the eNodeB a scheduling request (SR), using the selected Rx beam, on a scheduling request (SR) resource in a self-contained subframe according to a time and frequency location of the selected eNodeB Tx beam. The UE can process an advanced physical downlink control channel (xPDCCH), received from the eNodeB, for an uplink (UL) grant using the selected UE RX beam.

    Abstract: Technology for a user equipment (UE) operable to decode measurement gap patterns received from a Next Generation NodeB (gNB) is disclosed. The UE can decode a per-frequency range (per-FR) measurement gap pattern received from the gNB in a New Radio (NR) system. The per-FR measurement gap pattern can indicate a measurement gap partem for monitoring selected frequency layers within a frequency range at the UE. The UE can process one or more measurements for the selected frequency layers within the frequency range. The one or more measurements for the selected frequency layers can be measured in accordance with the per-FR measurement gap pattern. The UE can encode the one or more measurements for the selected frequency layers for reporting to the gNB.

    Abstract: User equipment (UE), an enhanced NodeB (eNB) and method of improving positioning accuracy and enabling vertical domain positioning of the UE are generally described. The UE may receive a prsInfo control signal having at least one PRS configuration and subsequently a plurality of Reference Signals (RSs). The RSs may have a first Positioning Reference Signal (PRS) pattern in a first set of PRS subframes and a second PRS pattern in a second set of PRS subframes received prior to a subsequent first set of PRS subframes. The RSs may have a vertical positioning RS and a lateral positioning RS. The UE may measure PRS resource elements (REs), each having a PRS, in the first and second PRS pattern. The UE may transmit a measurement of the PRS in the first and second PRS pattern. The patterns may enable horizontal and vertical positioning to be determined.

The UE can decode control signaling received in a downlink from the base station. The control signaling can indicate a resource mapping pattern for a PT-RS. The UE can identify the resource mapping pattern for the PT-RS based on the control signaling received from the base station. The UE can encode one or more PT-RS for transmission to the base station in an uplink in accordance with the resource mapping pattern for the PT-RS.
