    Abstract: A safety valve has movable and immovable valve elements, and a friction unit arranged therebetween for damping vibrations, wherein the friction unit has a plurality of friction members movable radially relative to a valve axis, a pressing member arranged to move the friction members so that their friction surfaces are pressed against a friction countersurface of a movable valve element of the movable valve means and for abutment against a stationary abutment member at their side facing toward a valve closing member, and a pretensioned auxiliary spring acting upon the friction members at their side facing away from the valve closing member and in a valve closing direction, wherein the auxiliary spring has such force and such a smaller resistance that in the event of seizing of the friction members with the movable valve element, the auxiliary spring is compressed within a predetermined opening pressure which does not considerably exceed a response pressure over approximately a valve stroke.

    Abstract: A shutoff device comprises a housing having a closable flow passage which is closed by a closing plate member which moves into a recess defined in said housing forming a receiving seat. The closing plate member is closed by the movement of a fluid pressure operated piston which moves the closing plate member rapidly into the closed position. In order to prevent the closing plate member from slamming into the valve seat and damaging the valve seat, there is provided a bolster member in the form of a stop which is disposed in the path of movement of a stop face connected to a piston rod of the fluid pressure's piston which is connected to the closing member. The bolster member is made of a material which is non-elastic but which deforms after it is contacted by the stop face to initially stop the closing plate member and is then deformed to permit final closing of movement of the closing plate member into a completely closed position engaged in the recess seat and also to absorb the closing force by its own deformation.

    Abstract: A very reliable, trouble-free, safety shut-off is provided by a poppit valve arranged so that it can be included in series in a flow line. The head of the poppit is mounted upstream from the seat. It is biased open so that fluid can flow through the line at any rate from zero up to some maximum flow velocity. Flow through the valve is arranged so that it impinges upon the valve head, or something fixed to the valve head, whereby kinetic energy is lost at the head. That kinetic energy is used to move the valve head toward the seat until the spacing between them becomes so small that flow velocity is restricted. At that time, velocity through the valve is increased to the point where a large pressure drop appears across the valve and the static head of the fluid is used to force the valve closed and to maintain it closed. A dash pot develops viscous friction which is used both to damp any tendency of the head to oscillate and to prevent valve operation in response to short term transients or perturbations.Constructing the valve so that it is symmetrical about a center line and constructing it so that approaching flow is directed to the outer peripheral areas of the flow path, and then re-directing flow back into the central area of the flow path through the valve, results in a flow configuration that minimizes criticality in the selection of mass and bias and damping rate values.By confining the dash pot and biasing members such that they are isolated from gas flow, the shut-off is made useful for controlling flow of gasses which carry along fine grains of sand and other particulate material.

    Abstract: The inlet to the water valve is provided with a resilient flow control device which deflects under pressure to reduce the inlet orifice and maintain substantially uniform flow. On the outlet side of the flow control the liquid is forced to turn at right angles to reach the multiple restricted orifices where the liquid again must turn 90.degree.. At low pressures the flow is divided between 8 orifices 4 of which are gradually shut off by deflection of the flow control so at high inlet pressure the flow is divided among 4 orifices positioned in channels protecting them from being shut off by deflection of the flow control. The reduced velocity caused by the two 90.degree. turns in flow results in substantial reduction of flow noise.

    Abstract: A valve for controlling fluid flow is disclosed in which a fluid outlet is controlled by two separate components, one being tubular in shape and located inside the other hollow component. Both the hollow and the tubular components may either be the valve body and closing element respectively, or vice-versa.     Abstract: A fluid pressure shock absorbing valve is mounted between an oxygen supply tank and a fluid pressure regulator in a supply system such as that for welding torches. The valve includes a housing slidably supporting a valve member having a head biased to seat in the direction of flow from the tank to the regulator to normally close the valve. The valve member has a central flow passageway extending thereinto from the downstream end, and a restricted passageway extends through the head and opens into the flow passageway to bleed fluid through the head when the latter engages the seat. Radially extending passageways open into the flow passageway downstream from the seat. When the supply tank is opened, flow through the restricted passageway allows for gradual pressurization of the regulator and an eventual build-up of pressure to displace the valve member from the seat to allow full flow past the seat and into the flow passageway through the radial passages.
