    摘要： A friction roller for rotating twist tubes in twisting apparatus in which the friction ring is protected from contact with ambient oil by means of a protective coating and a slinger edge disposed on at least one side of the friction ring. The protective layer may be a protective ring which may be integral with the roller or it may be a protective layer of lacquer applied to the friction ring. The layer protects the friction ring from the spinning oil and the slinger edge acts to fling off by centrifugal force that oil which collects around the periphery of the friction roller so that the running surface of the friction ring remains unaffected.In one embodiment the slinger edge projects radially beyond the running surface of the friction ring and there is a peripheral groove on the associated twist tube which cooperates with the slinger edge in the manner of a labyrinth seal, which increases the protection against adverse influences from the spinning oil.

    摘要： A multi-roller stand, e.g. three roller, for a rolling line in a rolling mill, e.g. a rod mill, has journalled therein rollers of slightly different diameter. When the rollers become worn the worn larger roller can be refinished and used in the same stand as a replacement for the worn smaller roller. The latter can then be refinished or reground and can replace a still smaller worn roller in the same stand or in another stand, in the latter case as a replacement for a larger roller in said other stand. Alternatively the worn larger roller, after refinishing or reprofiling can be moved to a similar position in another stand higher up the line. In this case a worn larger roller from the first stand can, after refinishing or reprofiling, be used to replace a smaller roller in the last stand.

The blue annealed sheet so used exerts a polishing action on the rolls, avoiding need for taking the rolls out of the stands to be polished. One blue annealed sheet can be used several times for this purpose.

    摘要： A seal assembly for sealing a sleeve-type gravure roll to prevent ink penetration between the roll end members and the sleeve. Each seal assembly includes an inwardly beveled conical surface on the end member, a resilient seal ring disposed adjacent the conical surface, a pressure ring disposed adjacent the sealing ring, and a winding of pneumatic tubing located inwardly of and adjacent the pressure ring. Inflation of the tubing forces the pressure ring against the sealing ring and expands the sealing ring outwardly along the conical surface of the end member into engagement with the inner surface of the sleeve end, the sealing ring being elastically deformed so as to completely fill the space between the sleeve end and the end member to prevent penetration of ink beneath the sleeve.
