    摘要: A quartz resonator pressure transducer includes a generally disc-shaped resonator section, a housing surrounding the resonator section and joined to the perimeter thereof, with the walls of the housing extending in opposite directions generally normal to the plane of the resonator section. Selected portions of the sidewalls are made thinner than the remaining sidewall portions so that when the housing is immersed in a fluid, a non-uniform stress will be produced in the resonator section. The housing and resonator section are formed so that the frequency of vibration of the resonator section is substantially independent of temperature and relatively independent of temperature transients.

    摘要: A device for monitoring the pressure of fluid in an electrically conductive duct, such as an injection duct of a diesel engine, includes at least one electrical pressure transducer connectible mechanically and electrically to the outer surface of the duct, and support means for keeping the transducer in connection with the duct. A rigid casing for surrounding and protecting the support means and the transducer is formed in two parts which are hinged together so as to clamp the transducer to the duct. This casing is constituted at least in part by an electrically conductive material and has an internal electrical connection with the output of the transducer, whereby signals output by the transducer in operation can be picked up directly by the casing.

    摘要: Pressure sensing diaphragms comprise a cylindrical or spherical crystalline member in which an internal cylindrical or spherical chamber is provided. In the internally loaded embodiments, a fluid is introduced into the chamber and the pressure exerted by the fluid causes generally tensile stress in the region of the diaphragm generally about the chamber. In the externally loaded embodiments, the diaphragm is immersed within the fluid and the pressure exerted by the fluid causes generally compressive stress in the region of the diaphragm generally about the chamber. For each of the embodiments, the stresses arising cause certain mechanical and electrical properties of the crystalline material to change. The change in these properties is detected by observing the frequency behavior of one or more oscillators whose frequencies of operation are controlled by respective surface acoustic wave devices provided in the regions of elastic deformation. Many diaphragm arrangements are capable of providing temperature compensated pressure measurements. Two particularly useful orientations for the temperature compensated embodiments are the SST and ST orientations.

    摘要: A system for measuring transient pore water pressure in the ground utilizes a probe member having a unique arrangement of a pressure sensor and a soil stress isolation filter. The probe member has a body portion with a hollow cavity defined therein. The pressure sensor in the form of a ceramic transducer is mounted in the cavity, and the filter in the form of a circumferential gap formed on the body communicates with the cavity. The filter is also configured for isolating the sensor from effective soil fabric stresses while allowing access to the transducer by pore water pressure. A coupling medium in the form of silicon grease fills the cavity so as to transmit the pore water pressure to the transducer.

    摘要: There is disclosed apparatus for sensing cyclically varying pressure in a pipe, particularly but not exclusively for sensing pressure in fuel lines. The apparatus depends on resilient elements which bend symmetrically on pressure change, and transducers producing equal and opposite signals depending on the bending strain. In the first form of apparatus, a ring surrounds the pipe and bears upon it through screws at four spaced points. The ring is on two portions, to be assembled around the pipe. When so assembled, the ring portions bend as beams when the pipe dilates. Symmetrical piezoelectric crystals detect this bending. The second form of apparatus described comprises a pair of similar sensing members in the form of blocks each shaped to embrace a pipe over an arc and to make line contact with the pipe at two spaced locations; the blocks are removably clamped about the pipe. A transducer on each block provides electrical signals in dependence on bending strain in the block due to periodic dilatation of the pipe. The third form of apparatus also employs a pair of similar sensing members each shaped to embrace a pipe over an arc and to make line contact with the pipe at two spaced locations are removably clamped about the pipe. The third form of sensing apparatus also uses transducers one on each member, to provide equal and opposite electrical signals in dependence on bending strain in the members due to period dilation of the pipe.

    摘要: A digital readout gauge is disclosed which, for example, may be a tire pressure gauge which is mounted in a small portable housing. A pressure chamber is formed within the housing with a valve core deflator mounted within the housing to depress the core of a standard tire valve and permit the air pressure within the tire to be introduced into the chamber. A wall of the chamber is movable with changes of pressure and a piezoelectric crystal transducer or strain gauge transducer is mounted to be stressed in accordance with movement of this wall to develop an analog voltage in accordance with the air pressure. An electrical circuit is contained within the housing and energizable by a battery carried within the housing. A power switch is actuated to an on condition by movement of the gauge onto the tire valve to energize the electrical circuit with the analog voltage passed to an analog-to-digital converter and then to a digital readout display to display the digital value of the air pressure within the tire.     摘要: A d.c. voltage is applied through a series resistor to a capacitive piezoelectric device which is part of a cantilevered beam. The beam is thus made to deflect from a starting position until it contacts a grounded aneroid cell thereby partially discharging the piezoelectric device so that it moves back slightly toward the starting position sufficiently to break the ground contact. The capacitive piezoelectric device is thus alternately charged and discharged as the beam alternately makes and breaks ground by contact with the grounded aneroid cell. Since the expansion of the aneroid cell is in response to ambient pressure, the beam deflection as well as the voltage impressed across the piezoelectric device are related to ambient pressure.
