摘要:
Values are recovered from a hydrocarbon-containing vapor by contacting the vapor with quench liquid consisting essentially of hydrocarbons to form a condensate and a vapor residue, the condensate and quench fluid forming a combined liquid stream. The combined liquid stream is mixed with a viscosity-lowering liquid to form a mixed liquid having a viscosity lower than the viscosity of the combined liquid stream to permit easy handling of the combined liquid stream. The quench liquid is a cooled portion of the mixed liquid. Viscosity-lowering liquid is separated from a portion of the mixed liquid and cycled to form additional mixed liquid.

Used oil, such as automotive crankcase oil drainings from internal combustion engines, are pretreated by heating to above about 400.degree.-800.degree. F, and preferably between 600.degree.-750.degree. F, while an essentially liquid phase system is maintained at a pressure of between 500-3500 p.s.i.g., preferably between 2000-3500 p.s.i.g., for between 15-60 minutes, the contact time being even shorter at higher temperatures. A sludge which contains contaminants, such as insoluble degradation products, metallic compounds, and water, is separated preferably by centrifugation, leaving a substantially ashless oil ready for additional refinement to a high quality lubricating oil, or it may be used, per se, as a fuel oil.

In a chemical processing plant such as a petroleum refinery, provision is made for steam boilers and heating furnaces in which the energy consumed by the boilers for generating steam exceeds the energy consumed by the heating furnaces. The steam is produced at a pressure level which is sufficient to operate at least one back-pressure turbo-alternator, then to heat the chemical process stream to a sufficiently high temperature by heat exchange with the steam recovered at the outlet of the turbo-alternator.

A process for cleaning a used oil, in particular engine oil and industrial lubricating oil. The process comprises heat treating the used oil in a heat treatment zone at a temperature of 325.degree.-400.degree.C at a pressure of 1-6 bars for a period of at least 15 minutes, continuously withdrawing a first part of the treated oil from the heat treatment zone, re-heating said first part of the oil and recycling the re-heated first part of the oil through the heat treatment zone, subjecting the remainder of the heat treated oil from the heat treatment zone to a treatment for separating out the sedimentary residues from the heat treated oil. The sedimentary residues are incinerated in the re-heating furnace for re-heating said first part. A system is described for carrying out the process.

AROMATIC COMPOUNDS, E.G., NAPHTHALENE, PHENANTHRENE, ANTHRACENE, DURENE, ARE OBTAINED IN INCREASED YIELDS FROM OILS AND/OR RESIDUES RICH IN AROMATIC COMPOUNDS AND HAVING A HIGH CONTENT OF UNSATURATED COMPOUNDS, BY PRETREATING SAID OILS OR RESIDUES BY A THERMAL TREATMENT AT INCREASED TEMPERATURE IN THE RANGE OF 300-500*C. AND AT AN EXCESS PRESSURE OF 4-30 ATMOSPHERES, SUBJECTING THE PRETREATED MATERIAL TO FRACTIONAL DISTILLATION AND RECOVERING THE AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS FROM THEIR FRACTIONS BY COOLING AND CRYSTALLIZATION. THE AROMATIC COMPOUNDS ARE THEREBY RECOVERED IN INCREASED YIELDS AND INCREASED PURITY.
