    摘要: A melted polymer of hydroxyacetic acid with itself or with other hydroxy-, carboxylic acid-, or hydroxycarboxylic acid-containing moieties is subjected to high shear and injected into an organic liquid which is inert to the polymer to form an organic liquid dispersion of very fine polymer particles. In one aspect the melted polymer is combined with the organic liquid and the combination is thereafter subjected to high shear to form the fine particle polymer dispersion. A dispersion agent may also be used to aid in dispersing the particles. The dispersion is used for fluid loss control and gel breaking in subterranean formations.

    摘要: A composition for treating a subterranean formation and a method of treatment. An aqueous gel composition is formed by mixing a carboxylate-containing polymer with a crosslinking agent comprised of chromic carboxylate. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is incorporated as a single-component gel breaker. When introduced into a permeable formation, the solution forms a gel which makes the formation impermeable. After a predetermined period of time the gel breaker breaks the gel to a predetermined degree which restores partial or limited permeability to the formation.

    摘要: A novel cross-linked polymer is obtained by cross-linking polyvinyl alcohol with a cross-linking agent which is a mixture of a phenolic component and an aldehyde or a mixture of a naphtholic component and an aldehyde. The resulting polymer is exceptionally thermally stable and, therefore, can be used as an effective permeability control agent in all enhanced oil recovery operations, including steam flooding.

    摘要: A gelable composition is provided which can be injected into a well prior to steam treatment of the well. The composition comprises water, a water-dispersible polymer, a water-dispersible first crosslinker and a water-dispersible second crosslinker, wherein the first and second crosslinkers have differing temperature responsive crosslinking characteristics over the temperature range of about 70.degree. F. to about 400.degree. F. so as to enable crosslinking of the polymer and gelation of the composition over substantially the entire temperature range. Injection of the composition into a "cold" well followed by steam treatment of the well causes the polymer to undergo a two stage crosslinking reaction which produces a particularly effective and stable gel in diverting steam from "thief zones" in the formation surrounding the well.

    摘要: A new and improved composition and method for profile modification of subterranean formations characterized by high reservoir temperatures and/or harsh brine conditions are disclosed. The new and improved profile modification agents comprise a gelable composition comprising:(a) water;(b) a water-thickening and crosslinkable amount of a water-dispersible copolymer comprising from about 1 to about 99 mol % of units derived from an N,N.sup.1 -dialkylacrylamide monomer copolymerized with from about 1 to about 99 mol % of units derived from acrylic acid or a salt thereof; and(c) an amount of a polyvalent metal sufficient to crosslink the copolymer to form a stable gel. The profile modification agents are effective to alter the permeability of preselected portions of an underground formation by forming strong gels which are stable in harsh brine at temperatures of up to about 120.degree. C. The composition and method are particularly adapted for use in enhanced oil recovery operations.Additionally, component (b) can be a water-dispersible terpolymer comprising from about 5 to about 75 mol percent of units derived from an N,N.sup.1 -dialkylacrylamide, from about 5 to about 35 mol percent of units derived from acrylic acid or salts thereof and from about 10 to about 90 mol percent of units derived from 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid or salts thereof.
