The invention relates to a vehicle testing device for carrying out various tests on a vehicle, with the tires of the vehicle being respectively placed on two driveable rotatable rollers. Known vehicle testing devices have a need for substantial space and incur high production costs. Object of the invention is to enable a less expensive and more compact inspection of the vehicle. According to the invention, this is attained by placing a shock absorber testing device in the area of both rollers. The additional axial displacement of the rollers and provision of a third roller disposed in parallel relationship thereto and also shiftable in axial direction enables a testing of brakes, tracking, steering play, joint play as well as shock absorbers in a smallest space.

A process for testing and the testing assembly for performing the process for testing an anti-lock brake system (ABS) for a vehicle after installation or work on the ABS without the need to test the vehicle for an ABS design braking event. The process involves engaging a testing unit computer to the electrical communication network of the vehicle and communicating with the Electronic Control Module (ECM) of the ABS. The vehicle is driven onto motorized rollers that can roll the wheels at low speeds without requiring vehicle movement. The testing unit computer makes a series of queries to the ECM to determine status of various parameters. Additionally, the portable computer is used to make directives to the ECM as far as cycling the ABS modulating valves such as the ABS hold solenoids and the ABS decay solenoids and the driver as far as braking or releasing the brake. The process is essentially a closed loop test of the completely installed ABS system without actually requiring a wheel lockup at speed to test vehicle response, that is inducing an ABS design event.

The invention deals with a traveling or driving simulator and especially arake test stand for vehicles with antiskid brake systems, with drive rollers assigned to the vehicle wheels to be tested and slippage members, with adjustable slippage characteristic for brake torque dependent change of the drive torque between the drive rollers and the vehicle wheels, being assigned to the drive rollers. The drive rollers are coupled with each other by their drive shafts and driven by the flywheel masses of the rotating parts. In operation, the drive rollers can be accelerated up to the testing speed by the vehicle present upon the brake test stand. The slippage members are designed as electric or hydraulic machines controllable independently of each other. Thus, a slippage characteristic for different roadway conditions can be realized for each vehicle individually in a simple and optimized manner.

Method and device for testing an anti-skid braking system (ABS) of a motor vehicle, using a roller test bench with at least four rollers or pairs of rollers. These rollers are put into rotation by the roller bench and braked by the brakes of the vehicle. A difference in speed of rotation between at least one of the (pairs of) rollers and the other(s) is brought about by the roller bench. During the braking, the response of the anti-skid system to this difference in speed is observed.
