    摘要: A method for actuating one or more exhaust valves in an internal combustion engine during positive power operation is disclosed. The expansion stroke of an engine cylinder is effectively lengthened and the exhaust stroke is effectively shortened by delaying the opening and/or advancing the closing of the exhaust valve relative to conventional exhaust valve timing during the exhaust stroke. Selective variation of the exhaust stroke during positive power operation of the engine may reduce NOx production.

    摘要: The valve drive apparatus of the invention comprises an exhaust valve drive mechanism capable of changing an open/close timing of an exhaust valve, and a control device which controls the exhaust valve drive apparatus so as to release the exhaust valve during an intake stroke, independently of an exhaust stroke, in an EGR mode. Preferably, the exhaust valve drive mechanism comprises a first exhaust cam which defines the exhaust valve releasing timing and the amount of valve lift in the exhaust stroke, and a second exhaust cam which defines the exhaust valve releasing timing and the amount of valve lift during the intake stroke. In an normal mode, the displacement of the first exhaust cam is transmitted to the exhaust valve, and in the EGR mode, the displacement of the second exhaust cam is transmitted to the exhaust valve, in addition to the displacement of the first exhaust cam.

    摘要: A multicylinder internal combustion engine with an exhaust-driven turbocompressor and with a divided exhaust gas flow has at least two exhaust valves (2,3) and one intake valve per cylinder. A first exhaust valve (2) is connected to a first exhaust manifold which leads to the turbine of the compressor, while a second exhaust valve (3) is connected to a second exhaust manifold which opens downstream of the turbine. The charging pressure in the engine can be regulated by virtue of the opening periods of the exhaust valves (2,3) being varied in relation to one another in order to adapt the flow through the exhaust turbine to a value which provides the desired charging pressure in the engine. By opening the second exhaust valve (3) increasingly earlier, an increasingly lower charging pressure can be achieved.

    摘要: A valve train for an internal combustion engine has a variable valve performance mechanism for changing the valve open angle of at least one set of intake valves and exhaust valves. The valve train further includes an electronic control unit (ECU) for controlling the variable valve performance mechanism and a sensor for detecting the running state of the engine. The ECU judges whether there is a malfunction in the engine based on detection signals from the sensor. If there is a malfunction in the engine, the ECU actuates the variable valve performance mechanism to decrease the valve overlap thereby performing a failsafe. The ECU also advances the closing timing of the intake valves. Alternatively, the ECU retards the opening timing of the exhaust valves.
