    Abstract: A motor-vehicle door has an outer door panel, an annular inner door panel including a front frame member fixed to the outer door panel, a lower frame member fixed to the outer door panel, a separate upper frame member, and a rear frame member fixed to the outer door panel. The front, lower, and rear members together form an opening and the front frame member is formed with a pair of vertically spaced hinge holes each having a horizontal front part and a downwardly and rearwardly inclined rear part. An insert plate carries the upper frame member, fits in the opening, and is provided with hinge lugs engaged in the openings. The insert plate is pivotal about the lugs in the hinge holes between a raised position projecting inward from the door and a lowered position fitting in the opening. Mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic subassemblies are fixed on the insert plate, and fasteners retain the insert plate on the inner door panel in the lowered position of the plate.

    Abstract: A door locking knob structure for a vehicle has a push-button provided on the side of a knob main body which faces the inside of the compartment of the vehicle in such a manner that the push-button is movable together with the knob main body. When pressed, the push-button is withdrawn into the knob main body so as to define a finger receiving recess which allows an occupant of the vehicle to apply his finger thereto and raise the knob main body. Accordingly, when the door is in a locked state, the push-button makes the finger receiving recess disappear, and there is no gap between the push-button and the knob main body. Thus, it is possible to prevent any accidental or undesirable unlocking of the door.

    Abstract: A security device fits to a door frame or sill and operates between a locked and unlocked position so that the door can be locked and unlocked. The device comprises a first sleeve fixedly and non-rotatably attached to the door frame or sill, and a second sleeve which fits concentrically and rotatably within the first sleeve. The device also comprises a spindle which fits concentrically and rotatably within both the first and second sleeves and which is operably connected with a locking component on or within the door. When the device is to bet set in the locked position, the second sleeve is pushed downwardly and rotatably within the first sleeve against a bias located within the first sleeve against a bias located within the first sleeve such that the second sleeve releasably engages the first sleeve via engaging means and the spindle is pushed downwardly so that the locking component locks the door. When the device is to be set in the unlocked position, the second sleeve is first pushed downwardly and then is rotated such that the engaging means disengages from the first sleeve. The bias forces the second sleeve is an upward direction such that it engages the spindle to force the spindle upwards, thereby causing the locking component to be placed in an unlocked mode.

    Abstract: The operating rod of an automotive door lock is provided with a connector member which, in turn, is engaged by a knob having a cavity to receive the connector member. The outside dimensions of the knob are larger than the aperture in the casing, thus preventing the knob from being depressed. The cavity in the knob is sufficiently large to permit the connector member and thus, the rod, to be in its advanced, or unlocked position, while remaining entirely within the knob. This arrangement permits one to pull upwardly on the knob thereby unlocking the door, but prevents one from manually depressing the knob or the connector member and thus, the rod, to thereby lock the door. A car key, however, can be inserted through the top of the cavity to urge the connector member and the rod to the retracted, locked position.

    Abstract: Kit members used to replace and convert conventional push-pull automobile door latches with operating vertical reciprocatable spindle means against internal accidental release or external unauthorized release. The conventional latch knob is first removed, thereby exposing the threaded end of the spindle at the usual opening formed in the door sill for connection with the kit members. The kit comprises a guide sleeve, a latch knob with a hollow shank with bifurcated end portions to thread on the exposed end of the spindle, shroud means around the latch knob with an opening to permit under knob engagement by suitable means, and a highly flexible grommet coupled with the shroud around the latch knob conformable to the exterior top surface of the door sill. The guide sleeve being snapped into place in response to downward pressure exerted on a split ring tool member against the bias of a tension spring and discarded prior to connection of the latch knob on the spindle with the coupled shroud and grommet. The guide sleeve having an adapter sleeve with elongated longitudinal slots carried thereby when an enlarged spindle hole is encountered in some makes of automobiles.
