    摘要: A control method permits the operation of multiple superconducting magnetic coils so as to move a magnetic object to precisely specified locations within the body under command of a physician-operator observing the motion with live fluoroscopic imaging fused with more detailed preoperative imaging of some other kind. A computer contains the preoperative images and the fluoroscopic images, as well as the means to effect changes in the coil currents so as to accomplish the desired magnetic object motion and positioning. The control method operates the coils in pairs on opposite sides of the body in a manner to minimize the necessary current changes, thus avoiding the quenching of the superconducting coils. Combinations of these pairs can execute motion of the magnetic object in any direction in an impulsive manner and with high precision. The method should function well and provide advantages with coils which are not superconducting as well. The method overcomes the redundance present in the limited constraints given by a simple movement vector by the physician-operator.

    摘要: Embodiments described herein relate to magnetically steerable irrigated ablation catheters and methods of operating the same. A steerable catheter can include a distal tip including a first set of magnets. The steerable catheter further includes a shaft. The shaft includes a flexible section with a distal end coupled to the distal tip. The shaft further includes a second set of magnets spaced along a length of the flexible section and spaced from the first set of magnets such that the first and second sets of magnets collectively enable the flexible section to curve without kinking in response to a magnetic field being applied to the first and second set of magnets. In some embodiments, each magnet from the second set of magnets can be coupled to the flexible section via metallic elements disposed at the ends of each magnet.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for interventional navigation within a subject's body is provided in which a medical device having at least one electrostrictive element is adapted to cause the distal end of the medical device to bend in a given direction for improving navigation. The medical device may further comprise at least one magnetically responsive element on the distal end, which may be oriented in the approximate direction of a magnetic field that is applied to the subject's body. At least one method for navigating a medical device though a subject's body is provided, by changing the direction of an applied magnetic field to align a magnetically responsive element on the distal end for orienting the distal end, and by applying a voltage to at least one electrostrictive element disposed in the distal portion of the device for causing the distal end to change orientation from that achieved by application of the magnetic field alone.

The magnetic field is used to move the guiding element in order to position the electrode substantially adjacent to the target location.

    摘要: A magnetic navigation system for orienting a magnetically responsive device in an operating region in a subject has at least two magnet units and a support for mounting the at least two magnet units for movement relative to the subject, the support supporting the at least two magnet units adjacent the operating region in the subject at locations to apply a magnetic field to the operating region. Each magnet unit includes sing a magnet and a positioner for selectively changing the position of the magnet. The system also includes a control for operating the positioners of each magnet unit to selectively change the positions of the magnets to maintain the magnetic field direction applied to the operating region by the magnets as the locations of the magnet units relative to the operating region change. The system is adapted for implementing a method of navigating according to the present invention in which the magnets in the magnet units are selectively rotated and pivoted to maintain the appropriate magnetic field direction projected by the magnets to maintain the device direction as the magnet units move on the support about the operating region.
