Abstract: Determination of characteristics of a communication environment may be beneficial in many communication systems. For example, certain wireless communication systems, such as fifth generation (5G) communication systems, may benefit from appropriate mobility measurements. A method can include performing, at a user equipment, beam-specific measurements of a plurality of beams of at least one cell. The method can also include calculating a cell quality based on the beam-specific measurements.

Abstract: Example embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a solution for determining a contention resolution timer. In an aspect, a first device receives, from a second device, an indication to perform Msg3 transmission. The first device transmits, to the second device, information of the first device for contention resolution. In case a configuration of a 4-step random access channel is unavailable in an active bandwidth part for the first device, the first device determines a duration for monitoring a contention resolution message based on one of: a first configuration of a 2-step random access channel in the active bandwidth part, or a second configuration of a 4-step random access channel in a bandwidth part different from the active bandwidth part. Example embodiments of the present disclosure can improve the performance of a random access procedure.

Abstract: To better support beamforming in MIMO systems such as 5G, a first match is determined between a first transmit (TX) beam group of a radio network and a first receive (RX) beam group of a user equipment (UE); and also a second match is determined between a second TX beam group of the radio network and a second RX beam group of the UE. For example these matches can come from the UE's beam report with best match information. The network configures the UE with at least a first discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration associated with the first RX beam group and with a second DRX configuration associated with the second RX beam group. In this case the first and second DRX configurations are active simultaneously for the UE, and each said beam group comprises at least one antenna or antenna port.

Based at least in part on the indication associated with the availability of second network services in the location associated with a mobile device, a control signal is generated causing a reconfiguration of a mobile device. Some example embodiments arise in the context of the fifth generation (5G) networks deployed alongside Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks, such that the mobile device can be reconfigured based at least in part on the availability or unavailability of 5G service.
