    Abstract: A surgical device comprising: (a) a first jaw; (b) a second jaw opposing the first jaw, the first jaw, the second jaw, or both being movable relative to one another between a jaw nominal position and a jaw clamped position; (c) a clamp lever in communication with the first jaw and the second jaw, the clamp lever moving the first jaw, the second jaw, or both from the jaw nominal position to the jaw clamped position when an external force is imparted upon the clamp lever in a first direction; and (d) a stop bias member that stops movement of the clamp lever when the external force is removed so that the first jaw and the second jaw are in the jaw nominal position at rest; wherein the first jaw and the second jaw are movable from the jaw nominal position to a jaw spread position when the clamp lever is moved in a second direction that opposes the first direction by an external force deforming the stop bias member so that a distance between the first jaw and the second jaw is larger in the jaw spread position than in the jaw nominal position.

    Abstract: An instrument that includes forceps. The forceps include a jaw assembly. The jaw assembly includes a first jaw and a second jaw. The first jaw includes a gripping section, and the second jaw includes a gripping section. The jaw assembly is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The first jaw is electrically conductive, the second jaw is electrically conductive, or both the first jaw and the second jaw are electrically conductive. The first jaw includes a first tissue stop that is centered on a medial plane of the first jaw. The tissue stop extends from the first jaw towards the second jaw. The first tissue stop is adapted to block an anatomical feature from extending beyond a proximal end of the gripping section of the first jaw, a proximal end of the gripping section of the second jaw, or both.

    Abstract: A surgical apparatus comprising: a mechanism that is configured to perform an operational motion of the surgical apparatus; and at least one transformation member having an original shape and a deformed shape, the at least one transformation member connecting the mechanism together, when the at least one transformation member is in the deformed shape so that the mechanism is capable of performing the operational motion; and wherein after the transformation member is subject a transition temperature, the at least one transformation member changes from the deformed shape to the original shape and disengages a portion of the mechanism so that the mechanism is prevented from performing the operational motion.

    Abstract: A surgical device comprising: a closure assembly including: (a) a latch unit comprising: (A) a hook latch, having a home position, (B) a forward bias constraint, (C) a rearward bias constraint, and (D) a bias member extending between the forward bias constraint and the rearward bias constraint so that the bias member has a pre-load when the hook latch is in the home position; (b) a movement unit including a bar that is movable relative to the latch unit so that the bar is movable in a prescribed motion into contact with the latch unit to create a locked state; and wherein the bar moves into contact with the hook latch driving the hook latch in a first direction, away relative to the home position, and then the hook latch is moved by the bar in a second direction relative to the home position, and a loading of the bias member is increased from the pre-load when the hook latch is moved in either the first direction away from the home position or the second direction away from the home position.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for a high speed drill cutting burr are described. The high speed drill may comprise a main body having a first section and a second section, the first section comprising a first housing configured to be operably connectable to a first cutting tip and the second section comprising a second housing configured to be operably connectable to a second cutting tip, and an electrical motor disposed inside the main body, the electrical motor may be configured to be in electrical communication with a power source. In some embodiments, a main body may be repositioned by rotating the main body 180° to switch between use of a first cutting tip and a second cutting tip. Mechanisms for limiting axial movement of a burr shank as well as transferring torque are described.
