Abstract:
Hydraulic clatter damping device consisting of a piston mechanically connected to a valve spindle and sliding within a closed composite chamber (20) consisting of two sub-chambers arranged on either side of the piston, namely, a large sub-chamber (23) in the upper part and a compression chamber (24) in the lower part, both chambers being filled with the same hydraulic fluid under pressure, the piston being provided with a hollow deformable body filled with a gaseous fluid, being rigidly connected to its free face in the large sub-chamber and contracted during rest by the pressure prevailing in the sub-chambers. The sub-chambers communicate with a thin-walled nozzle (26), the chamber containing the hollow body comprising a visual communication means which permits its upper face to be observed. The invention relates to the manufacture of safety valves and other safety components.

Abstract:
A metering valve having a one-piece bonnet for reducing problems resulting from tolerance stack up. A guide portion is included on the nose of the bonnet for cooperation with a valve body bore to ensure concentric alignment between the metering pin and its associated orifice. A pair of O-rings on the valve stem cooperate with the bonnet bore to absorb forces and substantially reduce the potential for galling and breakage of the metering pin. One of the O-rings is compressed to a substantially greater extent than the other to aid in achieving better alignment between the stem and bonnet, and to obtain a firmer feel.
Abstract:
A single stage solenoid operated valve assembly of the cartridge type having a reversing flow orifice assembly with a side port, bottom port and an orifice. A poppet is adapted to seat in and close the orifice for controlling fluid flow between the side and bottom ports. A transverse flow passage provides fluid communication between the side port and the orifice and a pair of longitudinal flow passages provide fluid communication between the bottom port and a chamber above the poppet. An axis normal to the longitudinal axis of both longitudinal flow passages is also normal to the axis of the transverse flow passage. In this way pressure over the poppet is provided when fluid pressure is applied to the bottom port and pressure under the poppet is provided when fluid pressure is applied to the side port.
Abstract:
The non-return valve comprises a housing provided with an inlet connection, a coaxial installation opening, and an outlet connection. An insert is secured in the installation opening to define a chamber with a cover on the valve. A movable valve body means includes a piston which divides the insert chamber into two cylindrical chambers while connecting ducts lead from the respective cylinder chambers to the housing chamber on the outlet side. A damping member is provided on the movable valve body system in the form of an annular ring to penetrate into the duct leading from the lower cylinder chamber when the valve closes to bring about a throttling action. Shock-like closure of the valve is thus eliminated in a simple and operationally reliably manner.
Abstract:
A dash-pot valve comprising a cylinder submerged in the fluid of a housing and having a piston attached to a plunger projecting into the path of closing movement of a pivotal valve member. A vortex chamber in said cylinder is provided with tangentially directed inlets to generate vortex flow upon retraction of said plunger and effect increasing resistance against said piston to progressively retard the closing rate of said valve member toward its seat.
Abstract:
An electronic expansion valve comprising a stepping motor, motion conversion member for converting the rotational motion of the stepping motor to a screw motion, a valve pintle coupled to the motion conversion means to be rectilinearly displaced and having pistons at both ends of the valve pintle, of which the pistons are slidably supported on valve casing members, a valve body formed as an integral part of the valve pintle at an intermediate portion thereof, and a valve seat which has such an outer surface that when the valve pintle is displaced with respect to the valve seat in either direction, the cross sectional area and the shape of a passage defined between the valve seat and the valve pintle are smoothly varied. The valve can be used in refrigeration cycle with a compressor. Stable operation of the refrigeration cycle is obtained. The orifice contour created by a moving valve body and a valve seat is always maintained streamlined so that the friction loss therethrough is substantially reduced, whereby the coefficient of performance of the refrigeration cycle is improved.
Abstract:
A needle valve having improved accuracy and wear characteristics is disclosed in which the valve stem is subjected to a constant force to prevent backlash throughout its entire movement with respect to the valve seat. In addition, the needle contained within the valve stem has a tapered end which moves within the cylindrical bore in a valve seat to control fluid passing through the valve and such needle is affixed to the valve stem only at its other end remote from its tapered end. The needle thus floats for a substantial portion of its length and its tapered end is relatively flexible and free of movement. The needle is, however, angled with respect to its valve seat such that the needle physically makes contact with the internal surface of the valve seat and maintains that contact throughout its lateral movement within the valve seat.
Abstract:
A direct acting valve assembly including a valve body and a guide tube attached thereto. An insert is secured within the guide tube and includes an upraised valve seat surrounding a central aperture. The valve body includes an annular surface between an annular inlet and a centrally located outlet, and an annular seal is positioned between the annular surface and the insert to provide a fluid tight seal therebetween. The guide tube receives a closure member which carries a valve seal positionable against the upraised valve seat of the insert. A solenoid is operable to move the closure member from a first position displaced from the insert and opening the valve and a second position adjacent the insert and sealing the central passageway.
Abstract:
Apparatus for supplying gas under pressure and distributing it between a plurality, n, of outlets (15) comprises a piston (1) slidably mounted in a cylinder (2), with the piston (1) being fixed to a rod (6) which serves to position the piston in the cylinder, and with the cylinder including a base (3) provided with a gas inlet (16) and a side wall (5) having n openings, each of which is connected to a corresponding gas outlet; said piston, when in a base end postion, serving to block communication between the inlet and the outlets; the improvement wherein the openings in the side wall are constituted by grooves (13) which extend over a shorter length than the axial extent of the piston, and whose depth in the thickness of the wall increases with distance from said base, the furthest end of each groove from said base being connected to an associated gas outlet, and each groove constituting together with the piston a convergent-divergent nozzle. The apparatus can be used to feed gas to the injectors in a gas turbine or to the burners in a boiler. Since the flow rate is determined solely by the pressure upstream from the nozzles and by the throat area of each nozzle, each of the outlets receives an amount of gas which is unaffected by flow conditions downstream from the outlets, e.g. varying amounts of dirt on the injectors.
Abstract:
YA flow proportioning control for proportioning flow from a water level sensing valve. A barrier is positioned downstream from the valve adjacent to a refill line. A restrictor ring is positioned on said barrier with a portion overlying the upper surface of the refill line. It is interchangeable so that by substituting rings of various sizes, various proportions of flow can be selected.
