    摘要: An apparatus and method for increasing the effectiveness of a heat transfer additive, such as, for example, 2-ethyl, n-hexanol, in an absorption refrigeration machine by introducing the refrigerant containing the additive directly from the condenser into a circulating stream of refrigerant being withdrawn from the evaporator, and being pumped to the evaporator refrigerant distribution system, thus distributing the additive flow from the condenser uniformly throughout the evaporator surface. Any noncondensables from the condenser are vented back to the absorber, where they are removed by a conventional purge device. Increased capacity can also be achieved by cooling the refrigerant with condensing water.

A heating mode of operation is provided wherein absorbent solution is heated in the generator and passed through the fan coil unit back to the generator to supply heat to a space being conditioned.

An aqueous solution for use in an absorption refrigeration system or in a closed engine cooling circuit comprises lithium chloride or bromide and zinc chloride or bromide, the molar ratio of the lithium salt and the zinc salt being between 11: 1 and 1 : 2. The solution may also contain calcium chloride or bromide. The solution is particularly useful in an absorption system since it has a low vapour pressure which in turn allows the absorber to be air cooled rather than water cooled and since it may be highly concentrated without precipitation, thus allowing steam at at least 125 p.s.i.g. to be used to heat the generator. The Specification details the solution characteristics and gives exemplary operating temperatures of an absorption system.

Passageway 99 receives weak absorber solution from conduit 64 via chamber 97 and discharges it through line 104 to the generator, while passageway 108 receives, via conduit 62, a mixture of weak solution from the absorber and strong solution from the generator and forwards the mixture through line 111 to the absorber. Shaft 79 forms part of a motor assembly 47 which receives refrigerant tapped off from line 48 through line 80, the refrigerant serving to cool and lubricate the shaft bearings 82, 90 and to cool the motor before entering the inlet chamber 92 of the first impeller.

An absorption refrigeration system includes control means for shutting down the system at excessively low temperatures, the control means being responsive, at least inpart, to the temperature of the refrigerant discharging into the evaporator. As shown, refrigerant is supplied to the evaporator by a line 24 and discharged against a baffle 70 which divides the refrigerant into two streams. A thermal probe 76 is arranged in the path of one of these streams and is also arranged to be contacted by re-circulated refrigerant from a spray header (Fig. 1, not shown) in the evaporator. At a predetermined low temperature, probe 76 opens a switch 77 which causes the solution and refrigerant circalating pumps 66, 36 to be de-energized.
