摘要: A magneto-optical recording apparatus records information on a magneto-optical recording medium composed of a memory layer and a recording layer which are disposed on a substrate, each comprising a magnetic thin film of amorphous-rare-earth transition-metal alloy. The memory and recording layers are magnetically coupled directly, or through an intermediate layer therebetween, to each other under an exchange force. A recording magnetic field generator such as a permanent magnet or an electromagnet applies a recording magnetic field to the magneto-optical recording medium, and an initializing magnetic field generator such as a permanent magnet or an electromagnet applies an initializing magnetic force to the magneto-optical recording medium. The initializing magnetic field generator has a magnetic pole confronting a surface of the magneto-optical recording medium. The initializing magnetic force comprises a magnetic field H.sub.V directed perpendicularly to the surface of the magneto-optical recording medium, and a magnetic field H.sub.H directed along the surface of the magneto-optical recording medium. The magnetic fields H.sub.V, H.sub.H are defined as follows:H.sub.V .ltoreq.H.sub.C2 +H.sub.W2,andH.sub.H >{(H.sub.C2 +H.sub.W2)-H.sub.V }.times.1.7where H.sub.C2 is the coercive force of the recording layer and H.sub.W2 is the exchange force.

This invention provides a multilayered medium which has an advantage of a large margin for an initial field Hini. for initializing the medium, and can stably perform an over-write operation, or which can increase a beam intensity in a reproduction mode to attain a high C/N ratio.

摘要: A recording and reading method and device of magneto-optical memory elements are provided to record and read an information signal to and from the magneto-optical memory elements, which contain at least two magnetic layers that are magnetically coupled, by means of a light-intensity modulated overwriting method employing a recording magnetic field and an initializing magnetic field. A control feature is included for applying the initializing magnetic field to the magneto-optical memory elements at least one time between the point of time when moving the magneto-optical memory elements to a recording or reading position, finishing a reading or recording, and ascertaining the selected operation such as recording or erasing and the point of time when subsequent recording begins such that the initializing magnetic field is not applied at the same time as the recording magnetic field.
