A system for supplying hot and cold water to a mixing valve includes hot and cold water conduits which extend in the same general direction and which are situated adjacent each other for respectively supplying hot and cold water to a mixing valve. A slide valve extends across and intersects both of these conduits to regulate the flow of water therethrough. The slide valve automatically assumes under given pressure and temperature conditions of the water in the hot and cold water conduits a given position with respect thereto, and the slide valve is capable of automatically responding to a change in the pressure conditions for automatically moving with respect to the hot and cold water conduits in a direction which tends to eliminate this change. A temperature-responsive structure is operatively connected with the slide valve for responding automatically to a change in the temperature conditions for tending to move the slide valve with respect to the hot and cold water conduits in a direction which will eliminate the change in the temperature conditions.

A cold and hot water mixing faucet comprises an inlet valve each for the cold and hot water to deliver cold and hot water to a mixing chamber. Each valve includes a valve housing and a membrane thereon and defining a counterpressure chamber therewith. The membrane is movable between an open position and a closed position for selective supply of water to the mixing chamber, and a conduit interconnects each counterpressure chamber and the mixing chamber. A thermostatically-controlled water distribution control device is associated with the conduits and is arranged for actuation of each inlet valve in inverse directions to maintain a predetermined water temperature in the mixing chamber. A water flow blocking device is associated with each valve conduits upstream of the thermostatically-controlled device and is actuatable independently of the control device for blocking the flow of water through the conduits of both valves to prevent escape of water from the counterpressure chambers whereby the pressure in the counterpressure chambers increases until it presses the membranes into the closed position without actuation by the water distribution control device.

The housing includes a mixing chamber which terminates in a discharge spout. A yoke is rockably mounted in the housing and the ends are arranged to make contact with and actuate the valves for the hot and cold liquid. A bimetallic spiral control thermostat is carried in the discharge spout and cooperates with the yoke for causing rocking movement of the yoke when the thermostat spirally moves in response to regulation of the thermostat. A device is carried at the outer end of the discharge spout for adjusting the position of the spiral of the thermostat about its axis of symmetry and thereby regulating the desired temperature of the mixed liquid.

A thermostatic mixer for hot and cold liquids includes a casing to which the liquids are delivered for mixing through first and second inlets controlled by respective diaphragm-type distribution valves. A back-pressure chamber is associated with each of the distribution valves and is closed by the diaphragm of the respective valve. Liquid is supplied to each chamber from the upstream side of the respective valve and passes out of the chamber through a delivery jet. Distributing means responsive to movement of a bimetallic strip controls the delivery of liquid through the delivery jets thereby controlling the pressures in the back-pressure chambers. The intake of each chamber includes a movable intake nozzle borne by the diaphragm of the respective valve and presenting an intake orifice through which extends a needle of varying cross section for varying the effective cross section of the intake orifice in dependence on the position of the intake nozzle. The distributing means includes manual control means acting on a movable adjustment member between the delivery jets or on a movable one of the jets to provide proportional adjustment of the deliveries of the delivery jets of the backpressure chambers, for simultaneous variation of the pressures in the chambers and adjustment of mixer delivery by means of the distribution valves.
